Our grocery store shelves have been barren of salad bags for weeks due to a recall and now the same might happen to our favorite breakfast sausage.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection (FSIS) announced the recall of more than 29,000 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat pork and poultry products by Jimmy Dean.

The recall was prompted by five consumer complaints the FSIS said it received on Dec. 10, 2018.

Customers said they found string-like pieces of metal in their Jimmy Dean ready-to-eat sausage links. Jimmy Dean is owned by Kentucky-based company CTI Foods LLC.

“There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider,” the FSIS said in a press release.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The ready-to-eat sausage links were produced and packaged on Aug. 4 2018.

These products were shipping to Tennesse where they were sent out to retail stores.

Jimmy Dean spokesman Worth Sparkman said that “there’s always a little post investigation,” according to NBC New York.

The Washington Post reports that the recalled products were distributed in 21 states including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Consumers with questions can call (855) 382-3101. Sparkman also said that CTI Foods aimed to “get the news out” about the recall so that people can toss out the potentially contaminated food.

The recall is listed as a Class 1 recall which is explained as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

Other than their few comments Jimmy Dean has made no mention of the recall on their social media pages or on the front page of their website. They do, however, mention that their sausage scented wrapping paper is back in stock.
