We’re talking about Texas Trash Pie.

We hadn’t herd of it before but, fortunately, the very lovely grandma Talli Faye is here to show us how to make one.

Talli’s YouTube channel In The Kitchen With Talli Faye shares easy, delicious recipes.

Talli started her channel back when the world was on lockdown.

She wanted to advocate for healthy homecooked meals but also recognized that most people are not equipped with domestic skills.

She figured that she could record herself cooking her favorite Southern recipes and share them with the whole world.

What started as a pandemic project became a long-term passion project.

In one of her most recent videos, she shared a recipe she learned from the internet. The Texas trash pie is exactly what it says on the tin.

It’s a pie consisting of spare ingredients you’ll find in your pantry.

The recipe has been making rounds around the internet and a lot of people are curious.

Now, Grandma Talli tried the recipe so we wouldn’t have to experiment with it by ourselves. Let’s get to it!

For the filling, you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of unsweetened chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of broken pretzels
  • 1 cup of broken graham crackers

  • 1 cup of caramel bits

  • 1 stick of melted butter
  • 14oz or 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • A sheet of pre-made pie crust

Let’s go over some important tips first.

As the recipe requires, make sure that you use broken crackers and pretzels. Broken pieces are much coarser and bigger.

This will lend a good bite for the finished product instead of a soggy texture if you use heavily crushed food items.

Let’s make some pie!

First, mix all your ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Make sure to fold the ingredients over the other so everything can stick into this large blob of sweet goodness. Preheat your oven to 350 F.

Next, dump it into your pie crust.

Press down the filling to push them to the sides and even the surface all around.

As a secret ingredient, Grandma Talli sprinkled a little bit of kosher salt over the filling. You can use pretzel salt as well.

Put the pie into the oven. Let the pie bake for around 40 to 45 minutes.

You’ll know the pie is ready if the shell has this golden-brown finish and the filling looks set.

To avoid it from burning, as different ovens have different baking paces, keep an eye on your pie when the timer gets close to 40 minutes.

Let it cool before slicing it into serving-size pieces. You can serve this with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
