When it comes to being a foodie, there’s an eternal struggle between preparing healthy, nutritious meals for yourself and your family while still making them seem like the guilty pleasures we all crave. This is challenging enough when it comes to making the main course, but it can be even more of a hurdle when we’re talking about dessert—especially for those with dietary restrictions. After eating a balanced dinner, proceeding to ice cream seems out of the question.
Fortunately, we have a delicious way to make homemade ice cream that is healthy, creamy and incredible—with only a food processor.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 bananas
- Ziploc bag
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind will do)
- 1 tsp of vanilla
- Baking tin
- Food processor
For flavor add-ins:
- 1/2 cup of strawberries
- 1/2 cup of apples
- Chocolate
- Peanut butter
- Cinnamon
- Matcha tea
- Chai tea
- Apple butter
- Cinnamon
1) For The Basic, Banana Ice Cream:
- To begin, peel your bananas and chop them up into smaller chunks. After you’re done, put the bananas in a plastic bag and throw it in the freezer.
- After the fruit is frozen solid, take it out and throw it in your food processor with 1/2 a cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla (add in whatever extra flavors you want here as well). Then, hit blend!
- After your ingredients are pureed together, throw it all in a baking tray, smooth it out and throw it in the freezer for an hour. After you’re done, voila! Silky and relatively guilt-free ice cream.
The above steps are just for the base but there is plenty of room in this recipe to innovate!
2) For Strawberry-Banana Ice Cream:
- After Step 1, add in 1/2 a cup of strawberries! Complete the rest of the recipe as is.
3) For Chocolate-Banana Ice Cream:
- After Step 1, throw in a bunch of cocoa powder and blend. Be sure to keep tasting until the consistency and flavor are just how you like it. For extra texture, add some chocolate chunks or chips in as well.
4) For Chocolate Peanut Butter-Banana Ice Cream:
- Do the same thing, but add peanut butter! Mix it up with chunky and smooth varieties for different textures.
5) For Apple Cinnamon-Banana Ice Cream:
- After Step 1, add a bunch of apple butter and cinnamon, again mixing it together to taste. Once again, you can also experiment with adding in actual chunks of frozen apple as well.
6) For Green Tea-Banana Ice Cream:
- After Step 1, add some Matcha Green Tea powder and mix it all together. With this one, be a little more delicate—start with a couple of teaspoons and keep tasting so as not to make the flavor too overpowering. For another version of this, try using a chai tea mix!
Needless to say, there is virtually no end to the possibilities of this recipe and the results are sure to be mouth-wateringly delicious. As it turns out, you don’t have to be a Chopped contestant or a professional chef to make your own ice cream.
