Rice can be eaten in all sorts of dishes, but many of us would agree that one of the most delicious rice creations is also one of the most basic: fried rice.
Originating from China sometime between A.D. 589–618, fried rice is one of the oldest comfort dishes to exist today.
And it got that way for a reason. Fried rice is delicious and goes with everything.
If you’re a keen home cook, you’ll probably love just how adaptable fried rice is.
You can make it your own with your favorite veggies or proteins, and whatever seasonings and spices you enjoy.
Fried rice recipes can be pretty time-consuming – even the so-called “easy” recipes.
You might think that to get it right, you have to spend a lot of time on the process. But YouTube Aaron, from the channel Aaron and Claire, says otherwise.
What if you could make an authentic fried rice dish in just five minutes?
Aaron promises that after watching his video, you’ll be a master of fried rice.
Even if you think you’ve nailed your fried rice recipes already, you have to admit, five-minute fried rice sounds almost too good to be true.
If you’re ready to make fried rice in five minutes, follow the instructions below:
1. Gather Your Ingredients
First, get together the ingredients you need for your fried rice dish. The most important ingredient, of course, is rice.
Aaron says that long-grain rice, like jasmine rice, is best for fried rice, as it stays fluffy and separates after cooking.
However, for this recipe, Aaron will be using pre-cooked rice, which will speed up the entire cooking process.
As well as your rice, choose a selection of veggies, meats, and flavorings for your dish.
2. Cook Your Ingredients
Before frying your rice, if you have any ingredients that need to be cooked, do so now.
As this is a 5-minute recipe, try to aim for veggies and small meat cuts that can be fried in a large pan or wok in a matter of minutes before adding your rice.
3. Fry The Rice
Next up, add your pre-cooked rice to the pan or wok and cook, stirring constantly, which will coat the rice evenly with your ingredients.
Add your spices and seasonings and continue to stir, once again making sure that your rice is evenly coated.
Fry for another 2-3 minutes on high heat. Make sure the rice is boiling hot before you remove the pan from the heat.
4. Serve Up
When your ingredients are nicely incorporated, serve your rice dish and enjoy while it’s hot.
The rice should be fluffy, and shouldn’t clump together.
Aaron’s video walks us through recipes for a variety of his favorite authentic fried rice dishes, including egg fried rice, shrimp fried rice, bacon fried rice, and kimchi fried rice.
There’s something for everyone – and you’ve probably never thought to make some of his rice dishes before.
