A roll may be a simple part of dinner. But a great roll can really make a difference. This recipe is sure to impress.
A mom who makes recipes for the YouTube Channel The Hillbilly Kitchen has shown the world how to make dinner rolls, southern style.
And they sure do taste great!
To make a dozen rolls, you need the following ingredients:
Three cups of all-purpose flour for the rolls.
An extra quarter cup of flour for dusting surfaces.
Two eggs.
One teaspoon of salt.
A third of a cup of sugar. (If you like them less sweet, then cut it back to two tablespoons of sugar.)
Two and a quarter teaspoons of yeast.
Four tablespoons of melted butter.
One cup of warm milk.
A teaspoon of cooking oil.
To make the rolls, begin by making the milk warm but not hot. Basically, it should be the same temperature as milk that you’d put in a baby bottle.
Then add the sugar, butter, yeast and a quarter cup of flour to the milk.
Then let it sit for five minutes to let the yeast develop a flavor (if you’re using instant yeast, then you can skip this step. But letting it sit for five minutes will only add flavor!)
Next, beat the eggs.
Add the salt to the two and three-quarter cups of flour (one-quarter of this flour should have already gone into the milk.) Mix it up.
Once the milk mixture is frothing, stir it some more.
Then pour the beaten eggs into the milk mixture.
Pour the milk mixture into the flour.
Then mix it all together. When everything is stuck together and becoming a dough, it’s time to knead it.
Pour the extra flour onto a surface and empty the dough onto the flour.
Knead the dough for around five minutes, until it’s smooth and not too sticky.
Pour your oil all over your dough.
Put the dough into the bowl again and cover it with a dish towel so it rises.
It should take around an hour to double in size.
Once the dough has doubled in size, pour a little flour onto your hands and onto your surface.
Take the dough out of the bowl again and mush/knead it together to get all of the air out.
Then cut the dough in half. Then cut these halves in half again. Then cut each one of these four pieces into three smaller pieces.
Pick up a dough piece and pinch one end of it repeatedly until it forms a ball. Repeat will all the other pieces.
Put the dough balls onto a greased casserole dish.
Then cover the dish with a dish towel and leave it for another hour.
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes.
After that, you should end up with 12 perfect rolls.
Once they’re done, you can brush them with butter to give them an extra shine.
Then all that’s left is for you and your family to enjoy them!
