Have you ever tried waking up at probably 5 or 6 in the morning to prepare your family’s breakfast? Everything seems to be going smoothly as planned, then suddenly, you remember the kids’ cereals.
You walk towards the kitchen cabinets only to find out that the cereal boxes are not properly closed. The before crispy cereals have become a spongy breakfast nightmare.
Every parent can pretty-much relate to this part of the so-called unfortunate breakfast diaries. Reinventions, remedies, workarounds, and even simple machines are made just to literally ‘close’ this issue about cereal boxes.
Luckily, a woman from Blackpool, UK, has finally discovered the sought after solution to closing her cereal boxes.
Becky Holden McGhee is a wife, a mother of two, and the person behind the viral box folding video.
On her Facebook account, she posted photos and a step-by-step quick video tutorial on how to properly close a cereal box. She wrote:
“Had to share this!!! It’s only taken me 40 years, but I now know the correct way to close a cereal box. Genius. It takes seconds, no more dried up cereal and ugly torn boxes to greet me every morning 😂 **I’ve now added a little video on how to do it. Happy folding! You know I want to see pics!**”

Her ‘life hack’ video tutorial was posted three months ago (May 10, 2020) and it has already amassed views reaching into the multi-millions, with tens of thousands of shares and likes to boot.
It looks like she was able to change a lot of people’s lives because of her discovery.
The “right way” to close a cereal box
Since then, many people have joined to share their own versions of box-folding techniques. No more box nightmares, and much more happy cereal breakfasts to come seems like it.
Below are the literally ‘no sweat’ steps in folding a cereal box – the right way!
1. Get the two flaps on the sides
2. Fold them in
3. Fold in the other long flap (any side would do)
4. Fold the side and bring each corner together
5. Do it on the other side as well
6. Finally, slide the remaining long flap inside
And VOILA! No more stale cereal to deal with on busy mornings!
After her nifty food-hack video made its Facebook debut, she was then contacted by Bored Panda and here’s what she told them:
“It was accident, I never in a million years thought it would be viewed 3 million times!” Becky also said that she feels “incredibly lucky, all the comments and feedback has been really kind or funny.”
One of the probable reasons why the video became a sudden hit is the fact that it’s so basic and as easy as ‘one, two. three’.
She exclaimed that she’s in total shock, because all this time, she didn’t know about it.
“The next morning, I thought I’d give it a go with the numerous cereal boxes we have and couldn’t believe how simple it was.” It turns out, the folding “literally takes seconds, looks really neat, and will stop cereal going all soggy,” she said.
Becky is happy to spread the ‘life hack’ that she’s discovered.
As of this writing, her cereal box-folding video already has a whopping 5 million views on Facebook! Appreantly, this was a tip that people others have been in desperate need of, too. We know we sure were!
At first, she only posted result photos of the folding technique- until people swarmed her with video requests. Soon after, she added a video (on the same post) of a step-by-step tutorial on how to properly fold cereal boxes.
“It made me giggle, but my husband and I quickly did and added it to the post!”
