Eating healthily is so important for anyone who wants to lead a long and happy life, and a key feature of any healthy diet is salad.
Despite coming in many shapes and sizes, with an almost limitless range of ingredients to choose from, salads often get a bad rep.
People often consider salads to be bland, boring, and flavorless. But awesome author and TV producer, Elan Gale, is here to set the record straight.
I’ve got some NEWS for you people about WHY your salads are dull and flavorless. Are you ready for some NEWS???

Gale, who has made a name for himself as an author, social media star, and TV producer on shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, took to Twitter to drop some bombs of truth on the unsuspecting internet!
He started off by introducing us all to one golden rule that so many people forget when it comes to preparing salads: seasoning!
1. You’re forgetting to SEASON your ingredients, acting like the DRESSING is all that matters. Cucumbers and tomatoes need SALT and PEPPER. Avocados need CITRUS. Act as if you were going to eat each ingredient individually

Every amateur cook knows how important it is to season ingredients, so why do we so often forget to do the same with salads?
As Gale says, a little salt and pepper can go a long way towards bringing out the flavor of raw veggies, but his advice didn’t stop there.
4. HERBS! Why aren’t you using herbs? Use whatever herbs you can find! Parsley, cilantro, chervil, nasturtium, basil, and and all of it. STOP NOT USING HERBS

Herbs and spicy ingredients help to add so much more flavor to any dish, including salads, and as Gale rightly points out, there are a whole lot of options to choose from!
From fiery jalapeno slices to smooth cilantro, flavorful ingredients of all colors, shapes, and sizes can totally transform a bland and boring salad into a dish fit for royalty.
6. Let’s talk DRESSINGS. You need olive oil, you need vinegar (all types are fine), you need CITRUS, and you need an agent that will HOMOGENIZE THE REST! What do you think I’m going to say now!?

Gale then started discussing cheeses and dressings, highlighting the importance of these key salad components.
Some people shy away from adding these ingredients into salads as they worry about the calories contained within them, but if you choose wisely and measure your ingredients out, you can enjoy a very tasty and healthy salad that works with your diet plan too.
8. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO PLAY. Raid your fridge. Raid your pantry. Use spices before they go bad. Use veggies you would otherwise throw away. HAVE FUN!

Last but not least, Gale encouraged everyone to get creative, and this might be the most important piece of advice in the whole thread!
Too often, people feel like they need to follow rules and recipes to the letter, always worried about trying something new, but the best dishes all throughout history were made by cooks who dared to be different! Don’t be afraid to toss some fish sauce in with your salad or mix a little garlic in there. Go wild! Play around! Make your own recipes and sprinkle over those herbs and spices to make new salads you and your family can fall in love with.
