When’s the last time you drank an Orange Crush? For anyone who doesn’t know, this soft drink has somehow earned itself a special place in American culture as a treat, particularly in the summer time. Without a doubt, anyone who likes orange-flavored things is likely to enjoy the flavor of a fizzy Orange Crush. Still, as adults we often move away from soda because it has so much sugar and so little nutritional value (let’s be honest). Every now and then though, these cravings may come back. If you’re having any such craving, we’ve got a great recipe for you.

If you’ve followed our page, you may have seen past recipes using soda as an ingredient in cake mixes (chocolate cake being a more prominent one of these). Still, this recipe for delicious Orange Crush cake is a lighter and more fun variation on these soda-pop cakes that is perfect for a backyard cookout. If you ever wanted to feel like a kid again, this is the perfect recipe to accomplish that. So let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 box of white cake mix
  • 2 1/4 cups of cold orange soda
  • 1/4 cup of canola oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 envelopes of Dream Whip (whipped topping mix)
  • 1 small can of drained mandarin oranges

Here’s what you do:

1.Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. In the meantime, get out out a 9×13 inch cake pan and grease it up with some non-stick spray.

2. Get out a mixing bowl and pour in your cake mix along with 1 1/4 cups of your orange soda. Add in canola oil and eggs as well. If using an electric mixer, whisk the bowl for 30 seconds before turning the speed up to medium for about two minutes. If whisking it up by hand, keep working the mixture together until it gets smooth and creamy.

3. When you’re ready, pour the cake batter into your pan and put it in the oven, letting it bake for about 30 to 35 minutes. Once that time is up, do the toothpick test to make sure the cake is cooked all the way through. If it’s ready, let it cool completely before taking it out of the pan.

4. Now you’re ready to make the frosting! Get another mixing bowl and pour in the other cup of orange soda, mixing it with two envelopes of Dream Whip topping mix. Beat the entire thing on low for 30 seconds before upping the speed on your mixer to medium. Keep beating it until the mixture forms soft peaks.

5. Finally, spread your whipped cream topping over the cake and garnish it with mandarin orange slices. If you’d like, you can place them spaced apart enough so that the cake can be cut into squares and topped with one or two slices per piece. Enjoy!
