There are a lot of ways to cook green beans. And each has its signature taste and aroma, depending on where the recipe originated.

But the South knows the mouth.

We’re sharing a Southern Style recipe for these green beans right now.

And with only 3 main ingredients, you’ll get a granny’s green beans in a snap!

This is how Tammy and Chris do it!

The ingredients:

  • 3 cans of Green Beans (14.5 Oz each can)
  • 1/8 cup cooking oil
  • 1 Tablespoon of Granulated Sugar

Prior to heating, pour the beans into a non-stick pot. The reason we use this type of pot is for easy cleaning, as well as to deglaze the side which adds more aroma.

Keep the juice from the cans.

We will need them to boil for later.

Next, add your cooking oil. Light virgin Olive Oil is preferred, but you can always use what you have in your kitchen.

Now add the sugar and mix.

Once mixed, place the pot on the stove on high heat. You can cover the pot with a lid to let the water mixture boil faster.

Continue heating the beans until it boils, keep the heat on high while this is happening.

Keep an ear out.

While boiling, stir every now and then. Once the water is almost gone, you should hear the beans sizzle.

Make sure you stay in the kitchen to keep watch. Or else, you’ll end up with burnt green beans (which I find delicious but they’re not for everyone).

The oil and sugar should caramelize.

And you will notice them as the side of the pot becomes brown.

This time, stir the beans from the side so the pot will deglaze. Next, take a masher and mash in about three or four places in the pot and stir.

This makes people think that the beans came out of your can.

Once you see little to no water at all in the pot, and when you smell that glazed aroma getting more pungent, remove it from the heat.

You can opt to add half a cup of water while working on deglazing the pot. This ensures the caramelization will stick to the beans and not on the pot.

I’m drooling a little already.

The sugar you added will only help the beans glaze and will also enhance the other flavors. The sweetness will not stand out.

The video has since been viewed almost 2 million times already in just 2 weeks of posting.

Many users commented and praised what they shared. One user commented, “I remember you telling us about this method before and it’s my favorite way to cook green beans! I love them with your meatloaf recipe and mashed potatoes. Only change is that I use a little less sugar.”
