There’s nothing like an inspirational Elvis song to get a cook’s mind stirring. And that’s what the classic Elvis tune “Burning Love” did for Sommer Collier, who labels herself as the resident cookery queen of the Website A Spicy Perspective, which is dedicated to simple “gourmet recipes and spicy conversation.”
“I feel my temperature rising
Help me, I’m flaming
I must be a hundred and nine
Burning, burning, burning
And nothing can cool me
I just might turn into smoke
But I feel fine”
—Elvis Presley, “Burning Love”
“You’ve probably heard of Elvis Presley’s famous sandwich combination … peanut butter, banana, and bacon. This combination crossed my mind one day while I was recipe testing to the beat of an oldies playlist on Spotify,” according to Collier.
Of course, cookies came to mind quickly, according to Collier. Yep, that’s right … a cookie featuring banana, bacon, and peanut butter!

Bacon as a secret ingredient in cookies? Who would have guessed? But, it turns out that bacon works extremely well in Collier’s cookie recipe, adding just the right flavor.
Experimenting to get the perfect cookie
When Collier first created her “Burning Love” cookies recipe, she used peanut butter cookie dough. While she loved the taste, she felt the peanut butter stood out over the other ingredients. She immediately knew they needed to be more equally matched. So she decided to reduce the amount of peanut butter and add more banana and bacon.
Collier’s next attempt at making the cookies was a success. She used chunk-style cookie dough, similar to what you would use to make chocolate chip cookies. Next she added in ripe bananas, cooked thick-cut bacon, and peanut butter baking morsels.

Ingredients you’ll need
This recipe takes only 15 minutes to prepare and 12 minutes to cook. Collier’s completed recipe can be found here, and it makes 42 cookies.
The ingredients you’ll need to start baking include:
- Flour, salt, and baking soda
- Unsalted butter
- Dark brown sugar and granulated sugar
- Vanilla
- Diced, thick-cut bacon
- Dice bananas
- Peanut butter morsels
Remember this trick when baking
There is one trick to keep in mind when preparing this recipe: Make sure the dough is a bit dryer than your usual cookie dough. Then, once the dough is ready, mix in the bacon bits, peanut butter morsels, and a touch of leftover bacon grease.
“This provides crispy bacon in each bite and a light bacon essence to the dough,” according to Collier.
Next, add dices bananas — without mashing the pieces, as they will help soften up the dough while you mix them in. The goal is to keep the bananas a chunky as possible.
“The bananas bake into light fruit-filled pockets, adding a pillowy texture to each bite!” Collier explained.
