Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
It’s one of the most-awaited times of the year when the family gets together to celebrate life and just be grateful for everything that they have received over the past year.
Thanksgiving dinner is also a venue to enjoy good company and amazing food.
And what’s Thanksgiving dinner without a turkey recipe, right?
It is the star of the night and it has every right to be!
There are a lot of recipes that can make a turkey shine, but one of the most difficult parts to highlight would be the breast part.
This part is not as savory and can even end up being too dry.
It is a good thing that The Cookie Rookie found a way to make turkey breast shine and be a new favorite at Thanksgiving dinner.
It’s a recipe that’s not only delicious, but it’s perfect for smaller crowds, or if you’re not wanting to go through the hassle of making an entire bird.
Introducing the bacon-wrapped turkey breast.
By its name, this dish is pretty simple to make and understand.
Of course, you can’t miss the part that you need bacon to complete it.
The steps are actually very easy, but do take a little effort.
To make the breast of the turkey taste even better even without the bacon, there are initial steps you should keep in mind before proceeding with the wrapping.
Making the brine.
To start, make sure you have everything you need to make the brine. You will be needing the following:
- 3 quarts cold water
- ½ cup kosher salt
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 10 whole peppercorns
Combine all the ingredients in one bowl. Stir until everything is mixed thoroughly.
Now get 3 lbs. of turkey breast and dip it in the bowl of brine.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it in the fridge for 24 hours.
A day later…
After the 24 hours are up, get the turkey from the fridge.
Set the turkey breast on a chopping board and get the 12 strips of bacon and be ready to cover the turkey with it.
Set the oven to 340°F. Grab a metal cooking rack, toothpicks, and a rimmed baking sheet.
Cover the breast with bacon and keep it in place by putting toothpicks on it.
Remember to cover the turkey breast fully with bacon and do not leave any part exposed.
Once done, put the turkey on the rack with the bacon-covered part on the upper side.
Place the bacon-wrapped turkey inside the preheated oven.
Cook it for 60 minutes and check if it is fully cooked. If not, rotate the turkey and run it again for another 15-30 minutes.
The bacon should turn a beautiful golden brown color, which means it is now ready to be the star of the dining table.
A savory treat.
So, why cover a turkey breast with bacon?
The layers of bacon covering the turkey not only add tastiness to the meat but also protects it while it is being cooked in the oven.
As a result, the turkey breast becomes extra savory and extra juicy!
