I can't bake and even I found this easy!

Some of us have been blessed with an instinct for cooking, while the rest of us really have to work to learn our way around a kitchen. You’ll never catch me baking one of the elaborate three-tiered cakes with fondant we always see on shows like Cake Boss.

But sometimes I want to make something sweet, or treat my friends and family to a little something special!

And luckily, as it turns out, not all cakes have to be complicated to be delicious.

We found this amazing cake that just requires one apple, one egg, and a few other household baking staples. It’s so simple, that even someone like me can master it!

What you’ll need: 1 egg, 1 apple and…

150ml milk,
60g of sugar,
60ml vegetable oil,
Salt,
7g vanilla sugar,
8g Baking powder,
150ml White wheat flour, and
1 tbsp White vinegar

To get started, grab a non-stick pan and grease it with some butter. Then, slice and core your apple.

And if you just had a moment of panic and didn’t think you had the perfect apple coring tool handy… think again. The chef here has simply used an old plastic bottle lid! It’s the perfect size and will make for uniformly shaped holes in all the apple slices.

Place the apple slices in the pan, giving them each their own space so they’re not overlapping.

One medium sized apple sliced about a quarter of an inch thick should fit perfectly in a medium pan.

The next step is to get out one egg.

They say you have to “crack a few eggs to make an omelette”, but you only have to crack one egg to make a cake.

Open your pantry and prepare some of your staple baking goods, as well as a medium-sized bowl.

You’ll need a pinch of salt, vanilla sugar, and about three tablespoons of white sugar.

It’s not a cake without tons of sugar!

Whisk those ingredients together until the mixture starts to become the consistency of a batter.

Then, add some oil – vegetable oil does the trick – and 150ml of milk.

The batter will now be very liquid, but that’s okay!

Keep whisking it all together, and add your flour.

Add in the flour slowly and whisk as you go.

Then add baking powder. This cake master is using a sifter to lightly and evenly distribute the baking powder as they continue to whisk.

But now your arm is probably tired of whisking, but this how-to guide is both a recipe and a work out all in one. You’re welcome.

There’s just one more thing we need to whisk into the bowl before the final touches.

It’s not something you see very often in cakes… but you need some vinegar! Yes, white vinegar is the secret ingredient for success in this easy recipe.

Now you’re batter is ready to go. Slowly pour it over the apple slices in the pan, making sure to create an even coating throughout the whole pan.

It will almost feel like you’re making pancakes!

Cover the cake with a lid and heat it over the stove on low for twenty minutes.

To check and see if it’s done yet, give the cake a little gentle poke to see how soft it’s become.

When it feels fluffy and cooked through, use a spatula to help loosen it away from the edges and bottom of the pan.

The hardest part doesn’t require you to have a knack for cooking, but it does require a little co-ordination.

This was the most nerve-wracking part for me… but I promise you can do it!

You’ll need to place your serving tray upside down over the top of the pan like a lid. Then carefully flip the entire pan upside down so it transfers smoothly to the plate.

And voilĂ ! Remove the lid to reveal a deliciously soft, sticky and sweet fruit cake!
