The humble vegetable peeler is a lot more versatile than you might think. Think of it like a pencil. While most of us are content to use it for taking notes and doodling, there’s people who can produce impressive sketches with it.

And if you’d like an example, then I lead you no further than to this recipe here. Now watch how much the humble peeler can do in the right hands!

With the simple peeler, you can turn these potatoes into little strips. Simply peel in the motion you can see here and you should have some nice, clean potato strips as a result.

Take those clean potato strips and rinse them by leaving them in a bowl of water.

Now for the meat in our “meat and potatoes”, we’ve got two chicken breasts that weigh 300g together.

Chop the chicken breasts up into clean slices. These will get mixed in with the potatoes later.

If your recipe has potatoes and meat, then you know it’s going to be good.

Drain the water, and then transfer it to another bowl to mix it with the next ingredients. Those next ingredients would be 1 egg with some salt and pepper on top.

Follow that up with 1 tablespoon of flour and mix everything nicely.

Now to bring the two worlds together! Add the sliced up chicken breasts into the bowl with the potatoes and get ready to turn the stove on.

Fry them in vegetable oil over medium or low heat. Put a lid over the pan and give it 15 minutes.

There’s more to this recipe than the taters and chicken, though. You know what’s up next? Cheese!

Start grating 80-100 grams of Mozzarella for later.

Turn the stuff in the pan over and fry it for another 15 minutes.

While it’s frying, add the grated cheese on top of it and 2 cheddar cheese slices. You can just about taste how good it’s going to be already!

Then, gently fold it in half and sandwich the cheese in between. It’s in a very patty-like state right now, but this is a casserole!

Chop up a young cabbage into as many fine slices as you can. Grate a carrot, and then slice up two cucumbers too.

Then chop up some parsley and toss it in with the other veggies.

That was quite a lot of vegetables you just had to chop up, and they’re going to be worth the effort. Trust me.

Top them off with some mayonnaise and yogurt and mix them well.

Now, take the casserole off the frying pan and serve it with the salad. Isn’t that just tasty to the extreme? And it wasn’t that hard to make either.

You might have thought of casseroles as low-effort stuff that your aunt may bring to a gathering, but they’re only as low-effort as you make them.

In truth, a casserole can be a delicious full meal if you just put some love into it.

And now that you can, why not give it a try?
