The truth behind the hole.

According to Dawn Food, the reason why donuts have holes in the middle is debatable.

However, the most widely accepted hypothesis dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century.

Hanson Gregory, a New England ship captain, expressed dissatisfaction with the doughy nature of the doughnuts served on board.

Gregory proposed making a hole in the center of the donuts to ensure equal cooking.

What is undeniable is that a dough circle with a hole in the center cooks more evenly.

Anyways, with or without a hole, this pastry is delicious and will always be part of our favorite dessert.
