Make Chinese Restaurant Quality Pepper Steak Right At Home

Is there any limit to what you can do with a slow cooker? If you love cooking with these handy devices as much as we do, you know just how versatile they can be. If you’re looking to make a chili, you can throw your beans in with some sauce and forget about it. On the other hand, even if you’re looking to bake a dessert or a bread you can mix the ingredients together, line the pan and let it rise on it’s own. Perhaps one of the best uses for these things, though, is to make restaurant food that you wouldn’t think you could get at home.

Many of us probably love Chinese food but we might not all have convenient Chinese restaurants near our homes. On the other hand, going to these places too often can really take a toll on your wallet as well. Still, we want those delicious flavors but we’re not always sure how to replicate them. Fortunately, today we have an incredible recipe for you to make at home that will do just that. Today, we’re making a slow cooker pepper steak recipe that tastes just as good as eating out. So let’s do it.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1.5 pounds of beef strips
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 an onion
  • 1 1/2 cups of beef stock
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • white rice

Here’s what you do:

1. Before anything else, prepare your veggies by washing them off and chopping them into thick slices. If you have steak to slice into thin strips, do that at this stage as well. When you’re ready, dump your beef, peppers and onions into your slow cooker.

2. Next, add in your seasonings along with your brown sugar and soy sauce. Add the beef stock as well and stir everything up so that it’s well-combined. With everything mixed together, cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for five hours.

3. About a half hour before your slow cooker meal is done cooking, boil some white rice and follow the instructions on the bag for whatever brand you purchased. Once the time is up on the beef mix, open the slow cooker up and make sure the steak is cooked all the way through.

4. Once it’s all ready, lay down a bed of white rice and scoop your pepper steak over it for a delicious meal!

As you can see, this recipe is incredibly straightforward and low effort. Once you’ve roughly chopped your ingredients and gotten everything prepared, all you have to do is set it and forget about it. By timing the rice towards the tail end of the cook time, everything should be perfectly ready at the same time! When you prepare the meat in the slow cooker, it’ll get perfectly soft and tender and it should be just as delicious as the restaurant version.

Although this recipe provides the basic template, feel free to experiment with it as you see fit. If you want to add more spices or more peppers for a little more heat, feel free to do so—add more veggies as well if it tickles your fancy. Above all, have fun and let us know how it goes!
