You won’t need a fridge to keep your fruit fresh, but you will need these three things.

Gather:

  • Canning jars
  • Canning tool
  • A pot to boil water in
  • Sugar

The first step is easy.

Just start loading whatever fruit you’re storing into the jars

In the video, she washes the fruit thoroughly before she begins to put it into the big mason jars.

Next, you’ll want to use that pot to get some water boiling.

Once you’ve got it to a boil, you’ll need to safely pour the boiling water into the jars of fruit.

Let it sit.

Leave the boiling water in the jars for 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.

After 10 minutes, use a strainer to dump the water back into the pot and bring to a boil a second time.

While that water is getting back to a boil, you can move on to your next step.

Grab the sugar and a tablespoon.

Dump two large tablespoons of sugar directly into the jars of fruit

Fill the jars

Now that you’ve got sugar in the jars, you can take the water you boiled and use a ladle to transfer it back into the jars until they’re all filled with water.

Once you’ve got your sugar, fruit, and boiled water into the jars, you can move on to the final and most important step.

Sealing the jars

You’ll need to seal the jars airtight or the process won’t work

Make the seal as tight as possible using the canning tool.

Make sure there is no air trapped inside as you seal the canning jars, or the fruit could rot and the process would be ruined.

Alternative options

If you don’t have canning jars and a canning tool, you could try a normal mason jar and see if that does the trick.

My guess is it will also work very well to keep the fruit fresh for long periods of time, but it may not last the full 12 months.
