It turns out that in the sea of videos on TikTok- from both terrible and talented dance vids, to socially “woke” advice soapbox speeches- there is a video circulating that has grabbed everyone’s attention- and it’s all about strawberries!

The video was uploaded by now-viral TikTok publisher, Thatnatchats, who decided to gift her followers with a close-up of beautiful strawberries beneath a microscope.

What she and her viewers found, however, left them reeling in disgust.

Now, what on earth can be so gross about a fat, red, juicy, delectable strawberry, you might ask? Well, there’s nothing gross about the beautiful berries in and of themselves.

It’s what hitch-hikes around with them – worms!

When Thatnatchats first put her berries under a microscope, she wasn’t expecting to see a small army of worms wriggling around in the tasty fruits.

“I always ask my fan base for suggestions about what I should look at next and I’ve been getting a lot of comments about strawberries. I believed they wanted to see the seeds up close so I was very surprised to find bugs when looking at strawberries under a stereomicroscope,” said Thatnatchats in an interview with Bored Panda.

Of course, that is exactly what happened. And when it did, her fans hit Thatnatchats up with a barrage of questions in the comments section of her video.

The number one question she was faced with? How the hell do you get the worms out of the strawberries?!

“I didn’t learn about how to properly wash the strawberries until my comment section became very fearful and asked how to wash them. Other people replied and I’ve heard salt water, vinegar, and many different methods I have never heard of before,” she continued in her interview.

So, where did she turn to for advice on this all-important subject? TikTok, of course!

As it turns out, there are countless TikTok tutorials on the perfect way to wash one’s strawberries. And while all of them range in ingredients and methods, there are a few basic tenants to getting the worms out of your berries that show up in almost all of them.

So, then, what is the key to getting bugs out of your berries? A berry bath!

One helpful user noted that with nothing more than a handful of ingredients- water, vinegar, and salt- people can have their berries bug-free in a matter of just a few minutes!

While some people argue that you should use warm water rather than cold, and others say that you should leave them submerged in your berry solution for longer- the outcome seems to be the same.

After scouring the never-ending resources on TikTok and social media for the perfect berry debugging method, Thatnatchats has decided that she’d like to try them all. After all- no one wants to be the one who ruined strawberries for people, right?

Fortunately, while we await her follow-up videos on berry-bug-blasting methods, there is no end to the tutorials available to get your strawberries bug free today.

Just add one cup of white vinegar and a couple of tablespoons of salt to 4 cups of water (cold or warm is your choice). Let the salt dissolve and then sink your berries for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes (up to you).

After you’ve vomited from the site of these sweet-toothed critters crawling out of your berry goodness, plop the berries in a colander and rinse thoroughly with cold water to get the salt out- and the bugs OFF!

Then, simply pat them dry and enjoy…if you still can.
