The cuisine of the Southern United States
Southern cuisine has always been popular for its love for vegetables which was soon brought to another level of flavor after adding savory meat.
According to Wikipedia, a traditional Southern meal is,
“…pan-fried chicken, field peas (such as black-eyed peas), greens (such as collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, or poke sallet), mashed potatoes, cornbread or corn pone, sweet tea, and dessert—typically a pie (sweet potato, chess, shoofly, pecan, and peach are the most common), or a cobbler (peach, blackberry, sometimes apple in Kentucky or Appalachia).”
This southern green beans and potatoes recipe will bring a nutritious and savory side dish to your tables. Finishing a bowl of this flavorful dish can get you full in an instant.

- 2 pounds of green beans
- 5 red potatoes
- 1 cup of onion, chopped
- 1 clove of garlic
- 10 slices of bacon
- 3 1/2 cups of chicken broth

And now for the procedure…
Step Number 1: Grab a pot and cook the slices of bacon for 5 minutes, or until they unleash their flavorsome grease. Once done, remove them from the pan and then set them aside for later.
Step Number 2: Using the grease from the bacon, toss in the garlic and onion and sauté them for 2 minutes. Then add the green beans, water, and chicken broth. Cook them to a light boil.
Step Number 3: While boiling, add the other seasonings- salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix them well, put the lid on the pot, and let it cook for about 30 minutes.
Step Number 4: When the time is up, add the red potatoes, bacon, and the remaining teaspoon of black pepper. Mix them, put the cover back on, and cook it for another hour. Make sure to stir it occasionally.
Step Number 5: After an hour, your southern green beans and potatoes are then ready to be served! Enjoy!
