Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Of course, you’ll need salmon. Get as many pieces as you need for the number of people you’re cooking for but make sure they’re the same size and length so they cook evenly. Or you can get half the number you need in one length and the other half with the same length.

Then you’ll need olive oil, a salmon rub or seasoning, and 1 garlic clove.

Dina used a pre-packed salmon rub that she bought locally but you can definitely make your own. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of dried thyme, 1 teaspoon of paprika, and 1 tsp of golden brown sugar. Mix everything and place it in a container so you can easily grab it when you need it for future recipes.

Okay first things first, pat dry your salmon. Just use a clean kitchen towel or a paper towel. You want the salmon dry so the spices can fuse with the salmon.

Next, season your salmon.

Lay down your salmon pieces, skin side down on a plate or tray. Drizzle generously with olive oil. Take your garlic clove and grate it. Add half of the grated garlic to the salmon, making sure it’s rubbed in evenly. Rub the rest of the grated garlic on the other salmon piece. You can rub the garlic in with a rubber spatula or with your clean hands. It’s up to you.

Now comes the important part.

Sprinkle the rub generously on the salmon. You can even use your hands to make sure the rub fills in the crevices.

Are you using an oven air fryer or a basket air fryer? It doesn’t matter which one you use, you’ll just need to be more mindful of the cooking time. For an oven air fryer, cook the salmon for 15 mins at 400°F. For a basket air fryer, cook one side for 10 mins then the other side for 7 mins.

By the way, with the oven air fryer, be sure to cover your baking sheet with foil and cover it with cooking spray before adding your salmon. For the basket air fryer, there’s no need to use foil, just spray the basket with cooking spray.

How will you when the salmon is done?

There are two ways to check. You can use a meat thermometer. Stick it in the center and if it says 145°F then it’s done. If you don’t have a thermometer, you can check the color. When salmon is raw, it has a translucent reddish color. And when it’s finally cooked, the salmon changes to an opaque pink color.

This will be perfectly served with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. Or maybe a baked potato and broccoli.

Someone asked what about frozen salmon. Can you use frozen salmon? Yes, you can! It’ll just take a little longer to cook because you want to make sure it’s cooked through inside.
