Your preference of crunchy versus smooth peanut butter says a lot about you
The research findings were actually really interesting!

It’s sweet, sticky, pairs great with jam, and might actually tell you a lot about yourself. I’m of course, talking about peanut butter.

Never in a million years did anyone think that your peanut butter preference might reflect your personality, but here we are. It’s a question of creamy vs. crunchy. Forget about asking people for their star signs, peanut butter is what you want to focus on.

I, for one, have trust issues with people who buy Skippy.

This information comes courtesy of American Peanut Butter brand Jif, and a sample of about 2,000 Americans. Clearly, Jif isn’t one to skimp out on marketing research.

For this poll, Jif used the ever-reliable OnePoll. All on National Peanut Butter Lovers day too.

And though the idea of such a correlation sounds silly, it might not be so. Americans are incredibly passionate about peanut butter (an odd combination of words to even type out, admittedly). Heck, European grocery stores differ greatly from American ones in one key detail : the stunningly low supply of peanut butter.

The passion for peanut butter is so strong, in fact, that a date may even give special thought into your peanut butter preference. Some of the respondents even went as far as to say that they weren’t comfortable with a date who had an opposing peanut butter preference.

“He liked the crunch. She liked it smooth. Can I make it any more obvious?”

The numbers come out like this 63% of people on the crunchy side describe themselves as optimistic. To make sure you’re not confused, this means 63% of the sample that likes crunchy peanut butter.

It doesn’t mean 63% of the 2,000 people said they liked crunchy peanut butter! Those mean two different things!

On the other hand, about half of the people who said they like it creamy were also more likely to be judged for their choice. Hey, we’re discriminating based on peanut butter preference now, I guess. Seems like people really have trust issues with smooth peanut butter enjoyers.

Respondents in the creamy crowd also described themselves as introverted, quite a lot more than the crunchy crowd did.

Can you imagine finding the perfect date – looks, personality, humor and everything, and then getting rejected halfway through the night because you like smooth peanut butter and they don’t?

If a varying peanut butter preference can lead some people to get teased as children, then it doesn’t sound so silly anymore, does it?

Who am I kidding, it still does sound kinda silly. It’s just peanut butter, guys. Calm down.

Although this marketing research wasn’t all about disparity. Despite the differences in creamy vs. crunchy, fans of either kind of peanut butter still had a lot of things they shared. The poll found that love for cats vs. dogs was more or less the same in both groups, and both parties would take grape jam over strawberry any day.

See? There’s no point in squabbling over peanut butter. But all jokes aside, there’s no doubting how cool it is that our personalities can have such a link on everyday, mundane preferences. That’s the magic of being human, isn’t it?
