Sometimes the old-fashioned recipes are the best ones.

Although the world has made plenty of kitchen advances throughout the years, things sometimes get lost as technology gets better. We forget the old ways of doing things, we find new ways of doing things that are more convenient… but sometimes something gets lost in the process. Sometimes it pays to go back to the old ways, just for fun.

Today, we’re going to show you how to make an old-fashioned pecan pie.

If you’ve never had it before, pecan pie can be delicious sweet while still packing a savory punch. Although there’s really no wrong way to make pecan pie, this recipe is truly something special. Fortunately, it’s also pretty easy to throw together—and the whole family is sure to love it.

So let’s get started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pie crust
  • 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of white sugar
  • 3/4 cup of unsalted butter, melted and browned
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 2 cups of pecans (plus extra)

Steps:

1. Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees and roll out the pie crust until it’s a 12 or 13 inch circle. Make sure the dough is big enough to fit over a springform pan or a pie dish.

2. Next, put the dough in the pan and press it in the bottom and the sides of the pan, trimming off whatever excess dough is there. If you’d like, you can also cut out little pieces of the excess dough with shaped cutters to decorate the pie as well. When the pie is ready, put it in the fridge until you’re ready to fill it.

3. Get out a large mixing bowl and beat your eggs until they turn foamy and fluffy. At that stage you can beat in the browned butter as well.

4. When those two ingredients are well-combined, beat in the brown and white sugar as well until they both dissolve in. Add your flour, cinnamon and salt as well before stirring in heavy cream and vanilla.

5. When everything is well-combined, fold in your pecans before pouring everything into the pie crust. If you made cut outs earlier, you can decorate the top of the pie crust with those pieces as well. Add whatever extra pecans you want on top as well.

6. Once everything is ready, put the pie in the oven and bake it for 40 to 50 minutes. Keep letting it cook until the middle of the cake is just set and it doesn’t jiggle anymore.

7. When it’s done cooking, take the pie out and let it cool all the way down to room temperature before you cut into it to serve. Store the leftovers in the fridge and enjoy!
