Feeding more than the usual number of people in the household can be stressful at times. Good thing there are casserole and other pan dishes that will take care of that. You’ll have more time to socialize than spending too much time in the kitchen.

What makes this baked minced meat recipe an easy go-to family dish is that the ingredients are easy to find, and it’s even easier to cook!

All you need are the following, and you’re ready to cook:

  • 1 Shallot
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 lb. Minced meat
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Clove of garlic
  • 1-2 Scallion stalks
  • Dill
  • 1 Baguette
  • 1 cup Harvati Cheese (shredded)

First, chop the shallots.

Next, melt butter in a skillet under low heat.

Once it’s completely melted, sauté the shallots until they’re soft and a bit brown. Place the minced meat in the skillet until slightly cooked. Cover the skillet and cook on low heat for 20 minutes.

While you let the meat cook, it’s time to chop some herbs and spices.

Chop the tomato, garlic, scallions, and dill. After 20minutes, place them in the skillet and season with salt and pepper.

Stir and cook for 10 minutes. Set aside once done.

Next, cut off the top portion of the baguette.

You can cut about half its thickness and slice carefully. Make sure to keep the sides intact. In doing this, imagine carving a slab of wood into a longboat. Remove the cut-off portion.

Remove any bread in between.

Tip: you can use the cut-out bread to make bread crumbs for future use.

Then, shred the Harvati cheese.

You can shred as much as a cup of it, but you can add more if you like to add more flavor. Remember that a Harvati cheese tastes sweet and buttery, so you might need to consider that when adding more cheese so as not to throw off the flavor of your meat.

Mix the shredded cheese with the cooked meat.

Place them on the baguette. Make sure it’s filled and the meat intact and not falling off. Once it’s complete, put it on a baking pan.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 360 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once done, take it out of the oven and slice it into even servings. You can hear the crunch of the baguette as you cut.

Drizzle with ketchup or hot sauce if you like, and serve.
