Well, folks, it looks like McDonald’s decided to celebrate Halloween a little earlier this year by releasing the ultimate fast-food treat. In fact, they’ve released not just, or even just two- but THREE! Looks like they’ve been keeping themselves busy during the pandemic, and all to our benefit.
What more could the trusty ol’ golden arches offer, you might be asking yourself? New flavors for the sweet AND the spicy fans!
They’ve just unveiled their new Spicy Chicken McNuggets, Mighty Hot Sauce, and a Chips Ahoy! Cookie McFlurry to go along with it!
The fast-food mega star company started dropping info about their upcoming menu items back in late August. They announced that the three new menu items are being offered at their locations throughout the nation- but only for a limited time. Well, for now, at least.
In order to build up hype for their September 16th release date for the new grub, they also launched a discount “plan” on their app called “Spicesurance.”

Spicesurance was good for their release-date at each restaurant only, beginning September 16th and expiring September 28th.
Basically, in order to get an extra 6-piece McNugget for free, you had to log in to their app and place an order for the Spicy Chicken McNuggets and order Spicesurance with it. The two plan options were for either an extra box of the new flavor or one of the classic- just in case you can’t handle the heat. If only real insurance were so simple.

So, just how spicy are these new nuggets? Well, that depends on your tastebuds.
The new nugs are fried in the classic, flaky tempura batter we’re all used to, but with cayenne and chili pepper thrown in.
According to a McDonald’s press release,
“These craveable, dippable and downright-delicious Spicy Chicken McNuggets are joining our classic McNugget line up, and pack plenty of spice and flavor into each bite.”
We all know when it comes to spiciness, though, it’s graded on a curve. Not everyone’s taste buds are the same.
So, what do the Mickey D’s fans really think about them? It looks like they make the cut.
According to many self-proclaimed spice-lovers on Instagram, the nuggets themselves are really not so spicy or that much different than the classic variety. Just the tiniest hint of spice, as one person put it.
On the other hand, the Mighty Hot Sauce steals the spicy show.
It seems virtually unanimous among spice fans that the Mighty Hot Sauce makes up for the kick that the new nuggets lack.
Simply crafted with crushed red peppers and spicy chilis, the vinegary sauce kicks up the heat on the Spicy Chicken McNuggets enough to pass the heat test with McDonald’s-going spice fanatics.
And just when you think you can’t take the heat, the new cookie McFlurry is there to cool you down.

This delectable new menu item is made with the D’s classic vanilla soft serve mixed with caramel sauce and, you guessed it- crushed Chips Ahoy! cookies swirled throughout. Truly, it’s a beautiful thing.
So, why all the change-ups at McDonald’s during this crazy year? It seemed like the perfect time.
“This is the first time we’ve introduced a new flavor of our classic Chicken McNuggets in the U.S. since they came to menus in 1983. As our customers have been asking for Spicy McNuggets for some time now, we couldn’t think of a better time to bring them to our menus. We can’t wait for McNuggets fans to get a taste of these new spicy options,” Linda VanGosen, Vice President of Menu Innovation explained.
It looks like some good things are happening in the final months of 2020- good looking out, McDonald’s. As stated, these new menu-options are only here for a limited time, so get yourself down to McDonald’s or order through the UberEats app on your phone soon!
