The humble French toast might be one of the most deceptively difficult dishes to master.
Sometimes, the loaves come out mushy, then other times, you can tell it apart from normal toasted bread.
This dish is one you’ll keep handy as it is actually easy yet sophisticated.
In this video, we’ll share one of the viral recipes that took the internet by storm.
Helly is a Canada-based food vlogger who shares her recipes online.
She said in her bio that she fell in love with cooking because she wanted to ensure her children eat well.
Luckily for us, even though we are not her kids, we still get to experience her great cooking.
In this video, Helly showed how she makes different kinds of toast.
In the first recipe, she made her version of French toast.
To start, gather all your ingredients.
2 eggs
60 ml or ¼ cup of milk
1 tbsp of sugar
¼ tsp of ground cinnamon and this is required!
Salt
2 slices of white bread
First, crack your eggs in a small bowl.
Add your milk, sugar, and cinnamon.
Mix well until the cinnamon is fully incorporated and the eggs are fully beaten.
Add a pinch of salt to bring out the flavors then mix again.
Then, cut off the crusts of the bread.
We may have different preferences about our breads so you may opt to keep the crusts on yours.
Time to soak the bread!
Put a slice of bread in a deep flat container.
Pour a bit of your egg mixture on top of the sliced bread.
Using a spatula, flip the bread over to make sure that the surface is covered by the mixture.
Next, put the other slice of bread on top.
Pour some of the egg mixture on top again.
Flip the bread over and over to make sure every part is soaked and the mixture is absorbed.
Press the bread against the sides of the container lightly to shape the bread.
Meanwhile, heat your pan over a medium-low flame.
Grease your pan with a tablespoon of butter.
Put the soaked “sandwich” into the pan and toast one side.
Using two spatulas, press the sides of the bread together to maintain its shape.
When one side has that crispy golden brown finish, flip the toast to cook the other side.
Repeat the process until that side is toasted.
Then, toast the sides of the bread as well so you can enjoy the crispy texture all over.
Plate it up, drizzle with maple or chocolate syrup, dust with confectioner’s sugar, and decorate with it fruits of your choice.
This recipe is easy and fun to make!
