What’s more exciting than watching a hyped-up sports event? Yes! A good snack from the venue’s stands. Popcorn, soda, beer, nachos, hotdog, burger, and many more!

But have you heard of the ‘Dilly Dog’?

Dilly Dog is probably one of the favorite ballpark foods for any Texas Ranger fan. It is known to be an original ballpark snack at the Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.

They also say that the Dilly Dog is:

“a Best Maid dill pickle cored and stuffed with an Angus beef jumbo dog that is then battered and deep fried.”

Is the description enticing enough? Mouthwatering enough? Well to us, it’s a YES! We can’t get enough of this corn dog.

Major League Baseball (MLB) has just recently started but because of the coronavirus outbreak, they have decided to keep the stands fan-free. It’s one way of slowing down the further spread of the virus.

Although this is now the new normal for the sport, nobody said that you can no longer enjoy a Dilly Dog at home, right?

This dill pickle and corn dog combination are also popular at the South Carolina State Fair. It’s where the hot dog and fried pickle tandem is called the ‘Dilly Dilly Dog.’ This treat of the same name is also available for grabs at the Indiana State Fair.

You just need to, of course, gather all the main ingredients to make this mouth-watering food-stand treat.

Grab a jar of Best Maid pickles (if your local grocery store doesn’t have it, then we suggest that you grab one from Amazon).

The Best Maid pickles make this pickle corn dog extraordinarily delicious!

Here are all of the ingredients you will need:

  • 5 large dill pickles
  • 5 hot dogs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 2 quarts Vegetable oil

Once you have everything ready, then you’re good to go! Just follow the simple steps below.

1. Grab an apple corer and core of the middle of the pickle.

2. Place the hotdog on a stick and stuff it inside the cored pickle.

3. While you are preparing the stuffed pickles, you should also have your corndog batter ready.

To create your corndog batter, just mix the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, buttermilk, egg, honey, and vegetable oil together.

4. Whisk the batter thoroughly until the texture becomes desirable (a thick pancake batter), then transfer it into a container.

Preferably somewhere where you can easily dip the Dilly Dog, like a drinking glass.

5. Preheat your dutch oven filled with 2 quarts of vegetable oil to 350F.

Once the oil is hot enough, dip the dogs in the batter and make sure that it’s fully covered. Then drop it carefully into the oil.

Note: Make sure to turn it halfway through cooking to ensure that it is evenly cooked. It usually takes a total of 3-5 minutes to cook the Dilly Dogs.

6. Once it turns a golden brown, you may remove the dogs from the hot oil and drain on paper towels or a cooling rack. It is best served with mustard or ketchup.

7. Lastly, enjoy it!

Surely by now you’ve heard of the Dilly Dog, served at the Swine & Spuds stand on the east end of the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum at the @mnstatefair. It’s a bratwurst stuffed INSIDE a hollowed-out pickle 🤯, then battered and deep-fried to crunchy-golden perfection. (Just a stab in the dark here, but we’re guessing the combo was inspired by the @rangers’ wildly popular Dilly Dogs, introduced at @globelifefield in Arlington, Texas last year.)⁣ ⁣ Though it may sound like a turducken monstrosity to @prontopupsmn loyalists, the Dilly Dog works because it’s crispy on the outside and moist on the inside thanks to a righteous tango of pork and pickle juices. Though we’d already eaten an Augustus Gloop-worthy smorgasbord of fair foods by the time we rolled up to their kiosk, we loved this Frankendog so much, we almost ordered seconds. It’s that good. ⁣
