So what do I need?

Here is the recommended ingredient list. But you shouldn’t feel like it has to be this exact. Add or subtract what you need to serve larger or smaller groups. We’ll even post some substitutions that we like as we go.

This meal isn’t as hard to make as you might think. The only special kitchen utensil you’ll need is a skillet for the beef and salad bowls for the final product. If you want freshly cooked bacon, you may consider a second skillet, though we like baking bacon on a cooking sheet.

As for ingredients, you’ll want your choice of fresh lettuce. We prefer romaine lettuce for this dish, but the recipe works with any lettuce you prefer. Hamburger seasoning works to give the meat that flavoring that restaurants love. Make sure you have at least 8 slices of bacon cooked up and crumbled.

You’ll also want shredded cheddar cheese, dill pickles, tomatoes,, and onions (we like red onions sliced thin, but you could easily replace with fried crispy onions). For the special sauce, you’ll want a blend of mayo, ketchup, sugar, dill pickle relish, and minced onion. You can follow our recommended ingredients list below or experiment to find what works for you.

Once you get all these ingredients together, you’re ready to go.

Cook by the book

First prepare the lettuce you’ve chosen as a base. Chop up what you need and arrange it in your bowls, since everything else will go on top.

After that, fire up your skillet and brown the hamburger meat. We’d add a little hamburger seasoning for that savory restaurant flavor. After that, throw in your crumbled up bacon slices. If you haven’t oven fried your bacon before hand, you might want to fry up your bacon stripes before you worry about the beef.

Next, add in your cheese, dill pickle, tomatoes, and onions. This way you can enrich the flavors of the hamburger and provide a lovely aroma for you and anyone you serve. Then all you have to do is add the special sauce to finish the meal.

And if you like your burger a little fancy, add pickles, chipotle mayo or a light vinegarette and you’re good to go.
