Everybody loves apple pie. Eyes light up, smiles appear, and suddenly life isn’t so bad. It’s become a favorite around the world, and is one of America’s staple desserts especially on the holidays.
Schnell Kochen shares his apple pie recipe on his channel. He uses a frying pan and only takes 15 minutes!
Here’s what you’ll need.
- 2 apples
- butter 30 grams
- water 20 ml + lemon juice 20 ml + cinnamon + sugar 20 grams
- 1 egg
- sugar 40 grams
- sour cream 200 grams
- butter 50 grams
- flour 130 grams
Cut up the apples as shown. If you’re not very handy with a knife, do be careful. Cut them cleanly then using a smaller knife, remove the middle part from the stem down to the seeds.
There are different ways of removing the center. Do what works best for you to lessen the risk of cutting yourself. Watch a video on how to use a knife in the kitchen if it helps.
Take the sliced apples then cut them up into strips making sure that they are all around the same thickness.
Heat up a pan and melt 30 grams of butter. Use a spatula to coat the pan with butter but be sure to regulate the fire. You don’t want to burn the butter.
Toss the sliced apples in to the pan then add in the water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar. Move and mix the apples around the pan. You want them coated with all the liquids and the sugar.
If you’re a seasoned baker or chef, use the pan itself to toss the apples up and down like they do on cooking shows!
Cover the pan and let the apples cook. That’s going to smell so good!
Crack an egg in a bowl then add 40 grams of sugar. Whisk until smooth then add in the 200 grams of sour cream and 50 grams of butter. Whisk away until you get a smooth, creamy texture.
Using a sifter, add in 130 grams of flour. Mix the ingredients together. If the batter is too thick, use 20ml of milk to thin out the mixture.
Slowly pour the batter into the pan. Be sure to cover and coat all the apples before letting them simmer over low heat for 10-12 minutes.
Here’s the tricky part.
Once that side is done, grab a plate and let it rest on top of the pie. Lift the pan and with your other hand, support the bottom of the plate since you’ll have to flip the pan over and allow the plate to catch the pie.
Now that you’ve got that uncooked side of the pie resting on the plate, gently slide it down into the pan. You want that side to match the color of the other end. Let that side cook for another 5-7 minutes.
It’s a lovely golden brown you’re after.
Serve it on a plate, or if you’re feeling fancy, a pie pan or something similar. Cut up a slice and enjoy it with your favorite brew. Be sure to share with your family and friends though.
