Little Maisie Saward is an 18-month-old who wanted to look just like her dad. She had a plan to look more like him but things didn’t turn out exactly as she expected.
Maisie is probably too young to be emotionally scarred by what happened, thankfully. Her mother, on the other hand, is not as lucky. For her, the trauma of this moment was very real.
The toddler from Hampshire, England was at home with her father and siblings when she decided to get into a little bit of mischief.
Her 4-year-old brother Ollie left the baby gate open leading to the living room, thus allowing Maisie to begin her somewhat frightening adventure.
Maisie was joined on her adventure by Eva, her twin sister
It’s impossible to know if the two sisters had any specific plans in mind but with the baby gate open, and a newly found freedom in front of them, they made their way upstairs.
As anyone who has been around toddlers can tell you, they tend to cause mayhem wherever they go.
Maisie found herself in the bathroom and decided to mimic something she had likely seen her Dad do before. If dad likes to gel his hair back then so would Maisie! Only Maisie didn’t grab a tube of hair gel, she instead tried to style her hair using Superdrug Hair Removal Cream.
Hair removal cream warnings
Hair removal cream is generally safe but there are a few warnings people should keep in mind. There is a long list of instructions on how to use the product safely, but 18-month-olds are rarely able to read these. Below are some of the warnings associated with the Superdrug Hair Removal cream that Maisie put on her head.
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Rinse eyes immediately if product comes into contact with them.
- Follow the instructions.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not apply the depilatory cream around eyes, in nose, ears …
- Before the first use, carry out a test on a small part of the area to be depilated.
- If you feel itchiness, burning, or tingling during its use, remove immediately with abundant cool water. If the symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
- Don’t scratch the depilated area after the application.
Thankfully, Maisie’s health was perfectly fine after using the cream. Her appearance, on the other hand, was left in a temporarily hilarious state. Things could have turned out much worse, however.
Dad caught her using the product before anything too unfortunate happened
Mom wasn’t at home at the time. She would later tell Metro News that if she had been, she might have been able to save Maisie’s bangs.
Maisie’s Mom Kristy had the following to say,
“Rather than just shove her under the shower, Luke ran her a bath, got her changed and it took about 10 minutes before he even thought about taking it off.”
Kristy continued to say that she was out when the incident occurred and when she phoned home, it still wasn’t clear what exactly had happened.
“I’d called Luke and he said ‘Maisie’s got no fringe [bangs] left,’ but the phone broke up, so I just thought she’d got hold of some scissors.”
Mom was shocked when she arrived home and saw what had happened to little Maisie’s head.
Kristy spoke to the Mirror,
“When I got home, I was just in pure shock. She came and gave me a cuddle and I just cried for an hour because I absolutely loved her fringe [bangs].”
She was not altogether thrilled with her husband either.
“If I hadn’t been out for so long maybe I’d have been able to deal with it myself. I didn’t speak to him for a couple of hours, but the next day I started to see more of the funny side.”
Thankfully, the whole family can have a big laugh about it now
Kristy says she did figure out how to comb Maisie’s hair over but it doesn’t really last for long. Maisie on the other hand seems to enjoy playing with her new hairstyle.
Friends of the family have jokingly suggested what Maisie’s Halloween costume should be. Her ginger locks and receded hairline are the spitting image of Pennywise, the evil clown from Stephen King’s “It” films.
Mom and Dad would later open up about feelings of guilt they had for what took place but realize that these things can happen when your raising kids, especially twins!
“Me and Luke felt a bit of a failure for not keeping these things out of her way, but once I’d realized these things happen when you’ve got kids we felt a bit better about it. Parenting, especially with twins, isn’t easy, and if this makes even one other mum feel better then that’s great.”
