Teo Jordan got a job bagging groceries at a Kroger in Covington, Kentucky, so he could save up some money to buy a car. Then an elderly man who was short on cash put a dent in those plans.
But, the 18-year-old high school senior wasn’t even mad about it!
“Just treat people how you want to be treated. You know, always help out if somebody needs it.”
Working as a bagger at a grocery store isn’t exactly a dream job for most teens. But, Teo was on a mission to save up for a new ride, and if that meant bagging groceries to achieve his goal, then so be it!
However, his plan to save up for a new car soon hit a snag the day he overheard a cashier tell an elderly man who was short on cash that he’d have to put away the groceries he couldn’t afford to buy.
Teo didn’t hesitate to reach into his pocket and hand the senior everything that was stuffed in there – all $35 bucks.
Although $35 may not seem astronomical, for those who don’t have it, it makes all the difference in the world. And it was especially helpful to the elderly man who probably would have gone home hungry otherwise.
As for why Teo helped him out, it was a no-brainer.
He told new stations WLWT-TV:
“I just seen I wanted to help the guy. I saw that he didn’t have the money for all the groceries that he wanted. The cashier told him he would have to put some of the things back, so I just thought in my head I would give him this $35 so he could have all the food that he wants.”
“He gave him an extra couple of meals that he probably didn’t have.”
That’s what Stephanie Jordan, Teo’s mom, said after she learned about what her son had done. She’s also super proud that she raised a young man who has his priorities straight!
“I am proud of Teo. I’m overwhelmed with joy. You try to instill in your kids right and wrong but you don’t know if they comprehend, so yes I’m very proud.”
Money will only get you so far in life, but selflessness and generosity are the glue that binds us all together. Without it, life would be a chaotic free-for-all.
Some people already know this, but the act of giving is actually just another way of receiving. Law of attraction, anyone? What you put out into the world is what you attract back into your life!
Like a boomerang of goodness, the act of kindness Teo showed that day at Kroger came back to him tenfold.
After his story went viral, a GoFundMe page was set up on his behalf to help Teo reach his car-savings goals.
“Teo Jordan helped an elderly man with his groceries. At the Kroger’s he works at in Covington, KY. With selflessness, we need to give back to this young man so he can reach his goals.”
Ken Scott, who happily donated $25 dollars towards the teen’s car, had these words of wisdom to share:
“Imagine what the world would be like if this was how all humans behaved, all the time? Great work Teo! — one small piece of advice, get a car with great gas mileage! ;)”
