After unexpectedly winning free pizza for a year, a Michigan teen decides to make a difference in her community by donating her tasty prize to homeless youth.

Recently, 19 year-old Hannah Spooner, was contacted by Little Caesar’s Pizza to inform her that she had won the drawing for a year’s supply of free pizza, any teen’s real-life dream come true.

But rather than making the gluttonous choice, Spooner said that she immediately knew what she wanted to do with her winnings: make a positive impact in her community and donate every last slice.

As a resident of Michigan, Spooner is no stranger to the havoc that has hit Detroit and its surrounding areas in the last couple years. She spoke to Inside Edition, stating, “Detroit is going through a lot of negativity. I wanted somewhere close to home that would be affected by my donation.”

After reaching out to several non-profits in the area, Spooner decided to share her mouth-watering winnings with the homeless youth residents at Covenant House Michigan. The facility tailors their services towards at-risk youth, ages 18-24 years old, providing them with shelter and educational programs aimed to develop paths toward a positive adulthood.

Spooner said, “I could tell it would actually make a difference. I would actually see people who benefitted from it. They were really sweet, warm, and welcoming.”

Hannah Spooner hopes her story will inspire others and remind everyone that “simple things like food” should not be taken for granted. Her actions serve as an example to all of us, as she made sure everyone got a piece of the pie…pizza pie that is.
