You may have seen a lot of public performances, and maybe you thought you already saw the best busker. Well, this video will make you think again.
It was at the usually busy 23rd Street metro station in New York City when Mike Yung performed to this classic song which was popularized by the Righteous Brothers.
The video of this subway performance shows Mike and his small band of two preparing for their piece.
They have a little drumset, a guitar, and Mike right there has his hands behind his back. You are probably wondering if he is holding a wireless microphone or any device that would amplify his voice throughout the subway’s space.
The answer is NO.
His voice is powerful enough to resound in everyone’s ears.
Mike steps forward, belts out the first few lines of the song, and oh, it is so soothing and strong! Without a doubt, this man knows what he is doing, he obviously is a performer and this video will prove it.
His voice fills the subway with a beautiful piece of music. His vocals are impressive, it’s that type of voice that you would want to hear all day.
Mike sings from the heart.
You can tell by the way he unleashes the beastly yet enchanting voice within him. He is hitting all the notes on point- his runs are smooth, the transitions from the low to high tones are perfect, and his vibratos are amazing, this guy deserves a bigger stage, wouldn’t you agree?
By the way, he is doing all this by just being laid-back and not overdoing it. It is such an effortless but astounding piece of music coming from this man who wants nothing but the subway goers’ attention, and of course, some kind tips in exchange for his beautiful singing.
And the tips start to pour in from the appreciative travelers.
With just a couple of kind donations from the passers-by, Mike can’t help but appreciate the generosity of the people who liked their music.
With each person that goes towards their donation bag, Yung gives them not just his soulful voice but also a genuine smile of thanks in return.
Look at that, he can even throw a thumbs up while shooting out a note. This guy is incredible! That shows a lot of vocal control.
This subway performance of his became the key to his discovery.
This video of Mike singing “Unchained Melody” on the subway went viral. The video amassed over 2 million views in just a matter of 1 week after being uploaded on YouTube.
Following the fame that he claimed from the famous video, Mike joined America’s Got Talent Season 12 back in 2017. He passed the audition and he made it to the quarterfinals where he performed “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.
Yung also performed “Don’t Give Up on Me” by Solomon Burke during the semifinals where he, unfortunately, got eliminated from the competition.
His blossoming career didn’t stop there. After AGT, Mike released “Alright” as a single back on January 12, 2018.
And on July 28, 2018, Yung started his Never Give Up Tour.
In August 2018, Dutch DJ/producer Martin Garrix confirmed in an interview that he will be working with Yung on a new song. On November 1, 2018, they released the song titled “Dreamer”, which also gave a tribute to his late wife Lydia, who died earlier of the same year.
Millions of people love his subway performances.
It looks like that wasn’t the only time that Mike performed at the subway. His social media accounts are also filled with his other public performances.
This video, in particular, got over 7 million hits on YouTube alone and this online viewer couldn’t help but share his thoughts about Mike’s impeccable performance.
“What a world we live in, where the soul and heart are shunned to the subways while the corporations fill our radios with artificial celebrities. I come back to this video every now and then to help restore my faith.”
