We come across people in our daily lives who may think they’re just doing their jobs, but to those around them, they’re doing so much more.
Many times, these people don’t even realize how much of an impact they’re having on the lives of the people around them.
One group of Nevada high school students has a person like this in their lives, and they weren’t waiting another day to show her how special she is to them.
Meet Mr. Lynn.
She works in the cafeteria at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Nevada. While Ms. Lynn may think she’s just a worker, she’s a lot more to the students she sees every day.
That’s why the students wanted to show Ms. Lynn just how special she is.
They reached out to an organization called DUDE. Be Nice (DBN) to help them do a kind deed for Ms. Lynn.
The group is dedicated to inspiring others to be kind to people in their community. What better way to let someone know how much they mean to you?
The students say they consider Ms. Lynn a friend. If they’re having a bad day, she asks what’s wrong and really takes the time to help the students. They wanted to repay her by doing something kind.
DBN partnered with the school to throw Ms. Lynn a huge surprise party.
Ms. Lynn noticed the DBN crew around the school and just thought that the students were working on a project.
The crew even interviewed her to throw her off a bit.
She never once imagined that they were there for her.
The students got posters and signs ready for the big party. They even prepared her favorite meal…barbecue!
Ms. Lynn is from Memphis, Tennessee, and loves barbecue. She tried to make it back home as much as she could, especially since her mother was ill. But, flights can add up, so she wasn’t getting back home as much as she used to.
Don’t worry, that problem was about to be solved too.
Once the students had everything in place, they just needed Ms. Lynn.
Wearing a tux, one of the students made his way over to her and escorted her to her table. The rest of the students starting singing “Be Our Guest” from “Beauty and the Beast”.
This brought tears to Ms. Lynn’s eyes.
She was completely surprised, but the surprises weren’t over yet. As she walked over to her table and her barbecue meal to remind her of home, she soon found out she would be going home sooner than she thought.
The DBN crowd and students surprised her with a plane ticket to go to Memphis to see her ill mother.
This was more than Ms. Lynn could have ever imagined.
It just goes to show that there are good people in the world and that a little act of kindness can go a long way.
Most people wouldn’t think of their school cafeteria worker when they’re asked about a special person in their lives. And, certainly, not all food service workers are made to feel so special. This is a beautiful example of why we should all turn the tables when it comes to how we treat each other.
