Who doesn’t love a good homemade biscuit? They are hearty, they keep in the fridge almost indefinitely and they can be eaten with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Still, it can sometimes be challenging to get a recipe that’s just right for a perfect balance of fluffiness and flavor. Fortunately, a foolproof new recipe has just surfaced for delicious biscuits with an unusual ingredient: Sprite. That’s right, the popular soft drink, Sprite.

Before you question it, make sure to try it out for yourself. Though the recipe can also be accomplished with a pre-made mix like Bisquick, what we’re including below is how to do it from scratch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of Crisco
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 1 cup of Sprite (or 7-Up)
  • Several tablespoons of butter
  • Cast-iron skillet

Directions:

To begin, mix together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder and salt) in a big bowl until they are combined.

Once that’s done, add your half cup of Crisco with a fork and gradually mix it in as well. Be sure to also add in your half cup of sour cream and your cup of Sprite. Stir the whole mixture together until it’s well blended.

Next, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for a bit before patting it into a flat, half-inch thick rectangle. After that, it’s time to cut it up into biscuits—this can be done with a knife for square-shaped biscuits or a measuring cup for round ones.

After that, melt a few tablespoons of butter in your skillet and get it nice and hot before adding in your biscuits. Pop the whole thing in the oven for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.

Finally, take your biscuits out when they are nice and golden brown and enjoy!
