This Southern Style Peach Cobbler Is Crumbly And Delicious

Along with that beauty comes plenty of local fruit trees such as peaches and pears. And it should come as no surprise that some of the best Southern dessert recipes incorporate those fruits.

That’s exactly what we’re doing today. This recipe is a Southern staple and is a perfect summer dish for those who want a little bit of sweet fruit with their dessert dishes. Today, we’re making the perfect Southern-style peach cobbler that is sure to be one of your family’s new favorite recipes. If you were looking for a dessert that will make you slow down to really appreciate what you’re eating, this is it. So let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Filling:

  • 8 fresh peaches
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons of cornstarch

Cobbler:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder1 teaspoon of salt
  • 12 tablespoons of unsalted butter (chilled and chopped)
  • 1/2 cup of boiling water

Here’s what you do:

1. To get started, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. If you’re using a lighter glass pan, set the heat to 425 degrees. Next, get a large bowl and throw in your peaches, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and cornstarch. Toss the bowl to mix everything together so that it’s evenly coated.

2. Once they’re covered, pour the peaches into your baking dish and let it bake for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, get another large bowl and mix together your flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

3. After you’ve mixed the powders, start to mix in the butter as well using your fingertips or a pastry blender. Keep mashing everything together until it has a coarse texture. Add in a little bit of water until it all is just combined.

4. After the 10 minutes are up, take your peaches out of the oven. Leaving them in the same baking dish, spoon your flour and butter topping on top of them. Once all the cobbler is in there, add a sprinkle of sugar on top as well. Finally, put the baking dish on a baking sheet to prevent spillage during the cooking process and bake it for another 30 minutes.

5. After enough time has passed, your cobbler should be golden brown on top. Take it out when it’s done and top it with ice cream to serve!
