Sour Cream Pie Crust Is Perfect For Your Summer Tarts
With only five ingredients, this pie crust couldn't be easier to make.

When’s the last time you made a pie? Although they can be a great dessert to help celebrate the holidays, most of us probably for a pre-made crust whenever we decide to make one. Still, that extra step of making your own homemade crust can really add some flavor and dimension to your baked goods. But even if you’re used to making crust, you may not have tried the recipe we have for you today.

When it comes to summer desserts, fruit tarts and lighter pies are a nice way to go for a tasty dessert that’s still on the lighter side. If you’re planning on making one of these desserts, this sour cream pie crust is a perfect base layer to bring the entire thing to life. For whatever reason, the special tartness of the sour cream adds something to the mix and results in a perfectly flaky result. So let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 stick of cold, unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of sour cream

Here’s what you do:

1. To start, mix your flour, sugar and salt together in a medium bowl. Once they’re combined, add in your butter and use a pastry cutter or two knives to cut the butter into the mixture. Keep cutting everything until you have pea-sized pieces in the mix.

2. At this stage, add your sour cream in as well and stir everything together. After you’ve combined it, it should begin to take the shape of a rough dough.

3. Take your resulting dough and mold it into a round, flat disk shape and wrap it in plastic. Once it’s all ready, put it in the fridge for an hour to cool off.

4. When it’s ready, take the dough out and drop some flour on a flat surface in your kitchen. Roll the dough out until it’s about an eighth of an inch thick all the way around. Place your dough in a pie plate and trim it as needed, pressing it gently into the pan. Don’t pre-bake the crust—just add filling and follow whatever recipe you’re following and you should be good to go!

Although this recipe is just for a simple pie crust, the results are definitely going to take all of your baking to the next level. Homemade pie crust is one thing, but the addition of sour cream punches everything up and brings out the sweet flavors of whatever you happen to fill it with. The fact that this is a no-bake recipe just makes the whole thing even better.
