Two incredibly talented figure skaters wowed the audience at the International Skating Union’s World Team Trophy competition in Japan back in 2017.
Power, grace, balance, accuracy, and precision, all in one performance.
Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres are France’s powerhouse skaters and together, they gave everyone watching the competition a performance that they would never forget.
They free skated to Disturbed’s rendition of the “Sound of Silence” that includes the spine-chilling vocals of David Draiman. With their perfect duo, they set the freezing ice field on fire with their incredible routine.
After their names were called, Vanessa and Morgan entered the ice rink with smiles on their faces. They happily waved to the audience and their supporters.
Pretty soon, they both slid to the center of the field and made their opening stances. You can feel the pressure filling up the arena, but these two were born to do this, that much is clear.
Don’t blink, you would not want to miss a thing from these two.
Vanessa and Morgan immediately showed everyone why they deserve to win. Wearing all-black, the two swung along to the deep voice of Draiman.
Just a few moments after circling the arena, Morgan tossed Vanessa in the air, but it wasn’t just a simple toss- the graceful skater spun while she was in mid-air.
While maintaining his posture, Cipres easily caught his partner. Then after a perfect landing, they continued to glide majestically as if nothing happened.
The people watching were not able to contain their amazement, so they let out the loudest of cheers from their seats.
How long have they been doing this to be this good?
Why do we ask? Because their coordination and timing were perfect. They were simply moving as one with the music, and we haven’t seen a single part where they got off-beat.
It turned out that the two have been skating together since 2010.
As Vanessa recalled the first time that she skated with Morgan:
“That was so long ago. I remember our 3-day-trial and it was so fun. He was so funny, because he had never done pairs before, so he was really nervous and saying ‘oh my gosh, oh my gosh’ every time he threw me. I knew that we were going to be good friends. I’m so glad I made that choice because we’re a really good team today. It’s been bumpy, but amazing with Morgan.”
If you think that the toss part was their best, then we dare you to watch the latter parts of their performance.
The duo was hiding a lot up their sleeves, actually, the toss part was just a warm-up.
They continued to gracefully slide and glide through the entire ice field with thousands to millions of eyes watching before them. It didn’t seem to bother them, it looked like they’re already used to performing in front of a large crowd.
They even looked like they’re being controlled by a puppeteer because they were executing each of their movements in total unison. Their many years of skating together have finally paid off, just look at how they smoothly moved from one sequence to another. Everything that they did was simply amazing!
Brace yourselves, here comes the most exciting parts!
They kept on dazzling the crowd with their top-notch skating skills, we found no words to perfectly describe how good these two were in this performance of theirs.
Pretty soon, they once again unleashed one of their trump cards. They did Axel jumps, not once, not twice, but thrice!
Yes, you read it right, three consecutive Axel jumps! And look at that, they still moved as one during that breathtaking part.
The difficulty level of their performance has been set to the highest level and they’re nailing every piece of it.
After the triple axel jump, Morgan tossed Vanessa once again, but it’s higher and more intense! Without her partner to catch her, she landed at ease, making that heart-stopping exhibition look like a piece of cake.
There were also parts of their performance wherein Cipres effortlessly carried James, he slid backward, and then he spun gracefully while carrying his partner with just one hand!
These two definitely know how to end a show!
In the latter parts of their routine, Morgan held Vanessa on one hand and spun endlessly with his partner’s entire body just inches away from the floor!
A dangerous routine that only skaters of their caliber could probably pull off.
As they came close to the end of their performance, the amazing duo from France flashed another flawlessly synchronized round of spins.
They did such an exquisitely choreographed routine that it made the audience stand on their feet.
Unsurprisingly, Vanessa and Morgan bagged the first place award. A well-deserved win if I may say, who could possibly top the routine that they just did?
