Love them or hate them, mushrooms have been a staple food in our diets for hundreds of thousands of years.
These wild vegetables were prized in Ancient Rome and Greece, though it took longer for them to catch on in America.
It’s thought that the first mushrooms were eaten in the US in the early 1800s.
The first known mushrooms featured in a cookbook was back in 1824, in a book called “The Virginia Housewife” (I know, imagine a book being called that today).
Since then, mushrooms have become widely popular, and are considered the “meat” of vegetables. They vary widely in size, shape, and color, but their nutritional value (of which there is plenty) largely stays the same.
Hopefully, you’re a mushroom lover because they’re a key ingredient in this delicious recipe.
You’ve never eaten pork chops like this before.
The recipe, titled “One Pan Pork Chops In Mushroom and Garlic Gravy”, is the brainchild of Dave, the man behind TheCooknShare on YouTube.
If you think this looks too delicious not to try yourself, you’re in luck because he let the whole world in on his secret.
You Will Need (Serves 4):
- 4 boneless pork chops
- Salt and pepper
- 2 tbsp of butter and 2 tbsp of oil for frying
- 10 – 12 button mushrooms
- 1 small chopped onion
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Step 1: Prepare Your Pork Chops
To begin, season your pork chops to taste using salt, pepper, and any of your preferred seasonings. Add butter to the pan, then follow with the same amount of oil.
Step 2: Cook The Pork Chops
Next, place the pork chops in the pan on medium-high heat. Sear them until they cook all the way through. Depending on the size of the pork chops you have, you can expect this to take around three minutes on either side.
Once you’ve cooked the pork chops, put them to the side on a plate.
Step 3: Fry The Veggies
Now it’s time to fry the mushrooms. Add more oil if needed, then add the mushrooms. Fry until they’ve released their water and shrunk in size. They should be golden brown.
Once the mushrooms are ready, add the onion and garlic to the pan and sautee until they’re lightly brown, soft, and fragrant.
Step 4: Bring Your Ingredients Together
Next, add the flour and stir until the ingredients are evenly coated. Pour in the beef broth, then turn up the heat and bring to a boil. Wait until the salt thickens, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5: Add The Pork Chops
Finally, place the pork chops back in the pan with the other ingredients and let the whole dish simmer for up to 5 minutes. Finish by garnishing with parsley, then serve up.
This delicious, simple pork chop dish should go down as a favorite with your family.
Creamy, salty, and with just the right amount of mushroom and garlic flavor coming through, it’s bound to be a hit with the hungry members of your household.
