Flatbreads take time to prepare, but it is always worth the effort and the wait.
This recipe of a Turkish flatbread called Bazlama is one of those flatbreads you’d want to take time making and enjoy this tasty treat after all that hard work. It’s best for breakfast or snacks, or even a light snack you want to pack for work.
Get your muscles ready because you’ll be kneading some dough for this delicious flatbread.
Prepare the following ingredients for the dough:
- 7 oz. warm milk
- 7 oz. warm water
- 2 tsp. yeast
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 ¼ tbsp olive oil
- 3 ¾ cups flour
Pour the wet ingredients into a bowl.
Add the yeast and sugar, and mix. Once they’re blended, add around three cups of flour and salt. Continue mixing until it slowly becomes thick and forms into a dough.
Pour the remaining flour and start kneading the dough.
Knead the dough thoroughly to make sure that all ingredients are mixed. As you go on, the dough will start to smoothen, and there will be no more flour visible.
Cover the dough and let it rise for 30 minutes.
After that, dust a clean surface with some flour and knead the dough a little bit. Using a pastry cutter, slice the dough into eight equal sizes. Roll each slice at the palm for your hands to form it into a ball.
Dust a plate with flour, place the rounded doughs, and let it rest for another 15 minutes.
While waiting, you can start making the filling. Here are the ingredients:
- 1 ½ cup cheddar cheese (grated)
- 2 tbsp. Labneh cheese
- 5-6 sprigs of chopped parsley
You simply have to add all three ingredients to a small bowl and mix them.
Once your dough is ready, it’s time to fill them up.
Get one round dough and place it on a clean surface, and sprinkle it with flour. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough.
Scoop a tablespoon of the filling and place it in the middle of the flattened dough.
Bring together all ends or edges of the dough to seal the filling. You can use your hands to mold it back to its rounded shape. Do this for all the dough pieces.
Cover them and let them rest for 15 minutes.
Then, flatten the filled-in dough once more using a rolling pin but don’t flatten it too thinly. Again, do the same thing to all dough. Let it rest for another 15 minutes; then, they’re all ready for cooking.
Put a pan on top of the stove on high heat.
Place one flat dough at a time and until it turns light or golden brown. You can keep on flipping the dough over to make sure it is cooked enough.
One last touch before you serve them up.
Melt 3 ½ tablespoons of butter and add a few chopped parsley. Mix and spread on top of your hot flatbread.
Enjoy that cheesy and delicious flatbread for breakfast.
