Birthdays should be celebrated in the most special way! Why not?
After all, we only celebrate the date that we were born once every year, so why not make each birthday count?
It’s even more special for kids. Parents, oftentimes, go the extra mile just to make it EXTRA special and even magical for their children.
Imogen Scott is a loving British mom who wants nothing but the best for her son, Marshall. So she decided to give him a memorable fourth birthday. And since her son admires the Queen’s Guard, they went on a trip to Windsor Castle to see the guardsmen, up-close and face-to-face, if possible.
Kids, as they grow up, have characters and heroes that they look up to. For Marshall, it’s the mighty soldiers who protect Her Majesty.
Marshall dressed up in his own Coldstream Guard costume during their trip to Windsor Castle. He looked incredibly cute in his ‘bearskin’ hat and red jacket.
There were even tourists who asked if they could take photos with him! An instant kid star, if I may say, right?
Imogen thought that they’d just have an ordinary trip, but she couldn’t have been more wrong.
During the Changing of Guard ceremony, Marshall stood as the guardsmen headed towards their “Guard Room.”
The birthday celebrant gave them a gesture of respect – a salute.
While his mom already knew that being able to visit the castle and seeing the guardsmen up-close had already made her son’s birthday special, another turn of events came up that caught them both off-guard.
One of the guardsmen marched back out and headed straight to Marshall.
Not only that, but he also kindly and generously offered a photo together with the birthday celebrant- a rare opportunity indeed!
It’s a surprise of a lifetime that has melted not only Marshall and his mom’s hearts but also those who have watched the heartwarming video.
Thankfully, Joanna Feng was there and she was actually the one who caught that moment on camera. The video then went viral online when it was reshared by a guardsman.
The video has circulated around the globe, enough to melt millions of people’s tender hearts.
The kind Royal Guardsman was Lance Corporal Edden.
During an interview with the Evening Standard, he explained that it wasn’t typically how things went. He told the publication:
“Usually I would just take the guardsmen in the guardroom as normal – but my wife and I are expecting a baby boy, and I remembered standing at Edinburgh Castle when I was younger hoping to get a picture with a soldier.”
He added:
“I noticed Marshall in a Coldstream guards uniform, and seeing him coming out made me proud of what I do.”
According to Imogen Scott, it was the “BEST BIRTHDAY EVER” for Marshall.
After the video went viral, the Coldstream Guards posted a social media message for Marshall in regards to his future. They wrote in a post:
“We have a spot reserved for him at the Army Foundation College Harrogate for the March 2029 intake.”
Oftentimes, the news is filled with tragic stories and negativities, that’s why this sweet story really pulled at people’s heartstrings.
USA TODAY even made a Humankind version of the video using the footage and in response, one viewer wrote:
“Totally awesome! My eyes teared up and I am a full grown 50+yro man. This guard made that kids day, week, month….”
