When you hear the term “punk rocker”, you may immediately think of someone who plays loud music. Perhaps, they play the guitar and scream as they sing. But, do you think about a boogie-woogie piano player?

Silence?

Yep, we didn’t think so.

That’s probably why one YouTube video is getting a great deal of attention.

Piano teacher Brendan Kavanagh posted a video that aims to break any stereotype you may have of a piano player.

He specializes in playing the Boogie-Woogie, so he knows a good player when he hears them…and sees them.

In a video titled, “Punk Rocker Tries to Play Boogie Woogie Piano”, Kavanagh showcases a young man who does more than try.

He nails it.

This piano player has a large mohawk, stretcher earrings in his ears, and a union jack t-shirt, probably not the attire you would attach with a boogie-woogie piano player. That’s why looks can be deceiving.

We’re not sure if he came across this young man by chance or if they planned the meeting. Regardless, the result is something that will blow your mind.

The piano player is sitting at one of those public pianos you’ve probably seen in train stations, shopping centers, and other public places in Europe. From the first note, he’s putting everything out there and not holding anything back,

He takes off, hitting the keys like a pro.

This is someone who is definitely not trying. He’s got this in the bag.

His playing is so infectious that Brendan decides he needs to take things up a notch. As the man continues to play the chords, he jumps in to play the melody.

The two are a match made in heaven!

Whether this mini-concert was impromptu or planned, we’re loving every second of it and so is the crowd that’s formed around them.

In case you didn’t know, the Boogie-Woogie is known to be a highly rhythmic type of dance. It was the first and to date, the only piano music to come exclusively from the blues.

This type of music hit its sweet spot between 1920 and 1945. But, these two are showing that it certainly has not gone out of style.

As the song goes on in this video, the beat gets faster and faster, really ramping up the excitement.

You can see people around them are excited and so are those who have watched the video on YouTube. Here’s a sample of their comments:

“That young man knows his way around a piano, I enjoy him very much! You two are great together and seem to have a good time…more please!”

“Shows you that you must never, ever judge a book by its cover.”

“Music can bring us all together!”

“I feel the need to fly to London just to Jam with this dude.”
