The coronavirus has brought nothing but chaos since its worldwide outbreak. People are on home quarantine and physical distancing to avoid the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The pandemic has temporarily closed certain establishments and also caused the temporary suspension of classes in some countries.
The World Health Organization, local and national governments, and other groups are uniting to spread the word about the precautionary measures in avoiding the deadly virus.
But apart from them, schools, student leaders, teachers, and principals are also stepping up to protect people, especially their students.
This principal went above and beyond, though, when he made a parody video about the do’s and don’ts during this pandemic.
A parody video? Why not?
An Alabama high school principal is teaching students on a different level. Despite the serious effects of the COVID-19 virus, he still managed to educate the students by mixing it with a little bit of humor.
How? He did a parody video about the things that people, especially the students, can do to avoid the deadly virus.
He rapped and danced to one of MC Hammer’s 1990 classic songs, “U Can’t Touch This.”
He wants to encourage the entire school to stay healthy and to protect themselves against the coronavirus.
So, who is the brilliant mind behind this idea?
It’s none other than Dr. Quentin Lee.
He is the principal at the Childersburg High School in Childersburg, Alabama. In an interview with Alabama NewsCenter, he said,
“Doing silly stuff is something I really enjoy. I released a song in May about my feelings toward COVID, and it was just me sitting at my desk screaming. It made national media, and I figured it was time to do something different.”
He also said that he wrote the lyrics of the parody video in just 15 minutes.
With the help of some students and a teacher, they were able to film the video under the supervision of director Jaylen Mitchell of City Vizualz.
He came up with the parody video to spread awareness among students and teachers.
Especially since they will be returning to school soon. Childersburg is part of the Talladega County School system, which has a hybrid plan for returning to school on August 20.
Pulling out a funny video from a serious situation?
It’s not that Dr. Lee is making fun of the pandemic, he just wants to spread good vibes to uplift the people’s spirits. After all, especially during these difficult times, a funny video would be helpful, right?
In the video, the Childersburg High School’s principal is roaming the campus while wearing a Childersburg Tiger blue facemask.
He also has a can of Lysol (disinfectant spray), gloves, and a digital thermometer.
He is spraying all the touch-prone facilities of the campus like the locker room, hallway, drinking fountains, vending and photocopying machines, and even his office.
There was also a point in the video wherein he told two students to wear their masks properly. Another part was when he invaded the space between some chatting students while holding a tape measure. He reiterated the importance of physical distancing by maintaining a 6-feet distance from each other.
While some found the video hilarious, it can’t be denied that Dr. Lee’s message was crystal clear- to stay safe and healthy. There’s nothing wrong with being careful nowadays, wouldn’t you agree?
It’s a delight to watch a principal putting in such an effort. You may enjoy another article about a dancing principal here.
