For this recipe, you need to have the following ingredients…

For the yeast dough:

  • 4¾ cups of flour
  • 1 cup of lukewarm milk
  • 1 packet of active dry yeast (One packet of yeast contains 1/4 ounce or approximately 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast.)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • ½ stick of butter (softened)
  • Egg wash (1 whisked egg + 2 tbsp milk)

For the cream filling:

  • 16 oz of cream cheese
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of corn starch
  • vanilla bean

To garnish:

  • berries
  • powdered sugar

It’s now time to channel the inner “Master Chef” in you.

Step Number 1: Preheat your oven to 325°F. Add the packet of active dry yeast to lukewarm milk, stir it well until it’s dissolved.

Then, add the flour, egg, sugar, and butter, and knead until you come up with a smooth dough (it should not stick to your hands). Transfer the dough into a bowl, cover it, and let rest for 45 minutes.

Step Number 2: Sprinkle some flour onto your countertop (should be clean), roll the dough out in a circular shape, and press a large pot lid into the center.

Step Number 3: Next, cut the excess dough into small fringes.

Step Number 4: After cutting all, braid the fringes as shown in the tutorial video, place the dough circle on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, and let the dough rest for another 15 minutes.

Step Number 5: Use a clean fork to poke holes right into the middle of the dough. Mix the egg with milk and brush the egg wash over the dough’s braids.

Step Number 6: Combine all of the ingredients for the filling as listed above. Once done, spread it on the dough, inside the circular braids.

Step Number 7: Put the pie into your oven and bake it for 30 to 35 minutes. Let the braided pie cool first before garnishing it with fresh berries and powdered sugar.

Step Number 8: Your dessert is ready to be served. Enjoy!
