Have you ever been on a plane where the captain or flight attendants announce something special during the flight? Like there’s a famous person among the passengers, regular flyer members, birthdays, first and last flight, and many more? Well, this flight had an announcement too, but a very special one- especially to the captain.
It happened on a United Airlines flight back in January of this year.
A video of the beautiful moment was shared on YouTube by Michelle A and according to the YouTube video, her mom was a Capital Airlines flight attendant for 60 long years. She had to quit her beloved job in the airlines (before merging with United Airlines) to take care of her three lovely children.
Looks like Michelle was raised well and she decided that day is “payback time.” They set up a surprise on their flight and her mom was clueless about it.

Michelle started to record the whole thing when the pilot made an announcement and asked,
“If you were a Capital Airlines stewardess, would you mind raising your hand?”
Her mom’s priceless reaction was caught on camera.
Michelle’s mom looked at her with a shocked face then said, “Oh my God”, then raised her hand.
The rest of the passengers showered the proud mom with rounds of applause, then just seconds after, the camera panned over to the aisle, the pilot was walking towards their direction.
Michelle’s mom then began to cry.
She wasn’t able to hold her emotions back. Things became clearer as to why she was crying.
The pilot is Michelle’s older brother!
He followed in their mom’s footsteps and became a United Airlines pilot.
He gave his mom the warmest hug and sealed it with a kiss then said, “Love you”, to which his mom responded, “You had the greatest dad ever!”
Those seated beside them added, “His father was a pilot,” looks like it’s indeed a family of flyers, right?
It may not be the loudest sound of love, but the gesture surely shows it all. Men of few words just like this pilot, oftentimes turn out to be more expressive through actions compared to those who are outspoken, wouldn’t you agree?
It’s her very first flight with her son as a captain and it turned out as planned by Michelle.
It was indeed a surprise of a lifetime to be flying with one of your children, not as a co-passenger though, but as a pilot.
It didn’t take long before the video went viral.
With just less than a year after it was uploaded, the video already made a positive impact online. As of this writing, the beautiful surprise, which runs for only 56 seconds, already has more than 4 million views on Youtube alone.
Those who already saw the video had nothing else to say but nice things about that beautiful moment.
One user wrote a heartfelt and emotional comment:
“You know life’s too short not say how you feel about your parents. I have the upmost respect for this Captain/son to do this for your Mom. I lost my mom way too soon to cancer so this means everything to me. I have the upmost respect for the captain to do what he did.”
While this one personally knew the captain:

A mother’s love is the lesson of this story. Just like what Mitch Albom said in one of his famous quotes,
“When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.”
