“A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.” — Gertrude Jekyll

You know someone had a fantastic childhood if they have experienced camping in a tepee.
May it be a do-it-yourself (DIY) type or the foldable ones. Playing with your friends in it any time of the day is definitely fun and exciting.
Today, many people, especially parents, are associating this childhood play area with their gardens.

Thus, it’s resulting in the birth of DIY bean tents or garden tents for the kids, and even to those who are just kids at heart.

Building a garden tent is probably one of the cheapest ways to entertain your kids while providing something for your plant to grow on.
It also comes in easy steps that require zero to minimal engineering experience- and below are the things that you need to do in building your DIY garden tent.
1. Gather all the necessary materials

All you need is some bamboo poles, make sure that there are plenty and that they are strong enough to hold the weight of full-grown plants.
You’ll also need twine or string, soil, pole bean seeds, or annual climbing flower seeds.
Remember to always wear your safety gear so you won’t get yourself into any kind of trouble or any serious injury.
2. Next is choosing an ideal location

Always remember to choose the best location. The soil should be dense and it should be cultivated properly.
3. Layout the circle

Once you are done choosing the best spot for the garden tent, you may then go ahead and layout the circle or the measurement (circumference) of the tent itself. You can use a tape measurer or any measuring device to do this.
4. Prepare the soil
After measuring the circle and laying it down in your chosen area, you should now prepare the soil.

Dig the outside area of your circle and pile it up as you work your way around, this will serve as additional support to the garden tent.
Note: Make sure to leave ample space for the tent’s opening/door.
5. After preparing all these, you are now ready to put up the actual tent

Make sure to use a strong type of rope. Remember, your kids will be playing in and out of the tent, you wouldn’t want to build a wobbly tent that may cause an accident.
What are the benefits of introducing gardens to our kids?

The best thing about building a garden tent is not only that you are able to give your kids a place to hang around, but you’re also making them closer to nature. For we all know, today’s generation is so accustomed to electronic gadgets.

Advanced technology may give us a further step into the future, but it also takes away the youth’s privilege to have an ‘organically’ awesome childhood.

Getting the kids to play in bean tents will eventually lead them to become more familiar with the world of gardening. Considering their age, avoid introducing them to complicated things.
You can simply ask them to plant a seed, take care of it, and make it blossom into a full-grown plant.
They will surely be fulfilled once they see the outcome of their hard work. Passing them this hobby will absolutely help us in having a healthier environment. We need a greener world, after all, wouldn’t you agree?
