Music can come from almost everywhere and when we hear a piece of music, we always think that the sound is coming from, of course, a musical instrument.

However, in today’s generation, improvisation has been made to create instrumental sounds, just like using a set of spoons.

Give that last word another look. Yes- that’s not a typographical error, it really is “spoons”. What comes to your mind when you read it? You might ask, is it really possible? The answer is a resounding YES!

In fact, a video of a woman went super-viral when she used a set of spoons as an accompaniment to a song.

Spoons, given that they are usually made of metal, can definitely create a sound. With proper control and use, people have successfully made this tiny kitchen utensil a percussion instrument substitute.

According to a Spin Ditty, using spoons as percussion instruments started a long time ago- literally a long time ago.

“Using spoons to produce rhythmic percussion music has been popular since ancient times. The sounds are made by striking the bowl of one spoon against the bowl of another, by striking spoons against other objects, or by doing both of these things at the same time. Creating a variety of sounds and rhythms is a fun process even in its simplest form, with one utensil in each hand. It becomes even more enjoyable as new playing techniques are learned.”

What type of sounds can spoons produce?

Spoons are often played by professional musicians in the folk, classical, jazz, and rock genres- just like in this viral video. As time progressed, enthusiastic amateur musicians also started using spoons as instruments to learn music.

“The sound produced by the spoons depends on their composition, size, and shape, the way in which they are held, the parts of the spoons that collide with each other, and the objects that they strike. It also depends on the number of spoons in an instrument.”

If you’re curious, why don’t you grab 2 of your spoons at home and try it? After all, video tutorials are all over the internet, right?

A spoon and a guitar make an oddly beautiful combination.

In the video, a lady is playing alongside a man with a guitar. They are just casually playing on what looks like a front porch, but they are creating such beautiful music.

The woman is using a pair of spoons to compliment the man’s guitar music, and oh, they sure make a perfect pair!

She’s just wearing old suspenders and barefoot, she is so laid back and low-key but her spoons’ music is beyond the bars.

She is playing the spoons so fast- it blends together hauntingly with the guitar’s music.

And let’s not overlook the impeccable quality of voice that the guy has. It’s a performance that is too good to be only performed on a front porch… and yet, the setting is what makes this song so perfect.
