Just how many unforgettable public performances have you seen live or maybe online? We bet you have countless, right?
These performances in the open are oftentimes spectacular, I mean, who could possibly guess what these performers have in store for the unsuspecting crowd?
Though most of these performances are unexpected, there are some that are expected – expected to be amazing, just like this group in the video.
They are set to perform to Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.”
It’s a classic 60s song that has been covered over 400 times by both professional artists and amateurs.
According to King, the song’s title was inspired by a spiritual piece written by Sam Cooke and J. W. Alexander called “Stand by Me Father.”
The perfect place for a public performance.
You will notice, especially to those who are familiar with the place, it appears that they are in New York City’s famous Central Park, near the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain.
It’s an ideal place to showcase one’s talent because it’s a go-to place by the locals and tourists. Do you know the number of people that visit Central Park each year?
According to Wikipedia,
“It is the most visited urban park in the United States with an estimated 38 million visitors annually, and is the most filmed location in the world.”
Now, if you are familiar with the place, then you should also know who these guys are.
They are “Cover Story”- a doo-wop all-men’s group that’s famous for their performances at the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain.
Sadly, according to their website, they’re no longer doing their regular performances in the said place.
On their website, they wrote:
“Sorry to say we no longer do the Bethesda Fountain Terrace in Central Park or MUNY/MTA locations
(subway stations, SI Ferry)”“Instead, we’ve been working the outdoor dining scene in Williamsburg or the Village
Thursday-Sunday evenings.”
It’s a performance that went viral with over 14 million views online!
The video starts with an upright bass intro from Todd- you better put on your headphones or headsets if you want to have a better surround sound-like performance from these talented guys.
Rome leads the vocals while the rest of the quintet gives him a beautiful blend of backup singing.
Behold, these guys are about to bring the house down with their impeccable talent.
Rome belts the first few notes of the song. From there, you’ll know why their video became viral.
They haven’t even reached the mid part of their performance yet but people are already swarming them. From the locals to the tourists, everyone seems to be magnetized by their beautiful singing.
Even the most meticulous ears would agree that they are such a talented group of men who deserve a larger stage.
The powerful lead vocals of Rome blends so incredibly well with the rest of the band. It’s an “almost” acapella piece that goes a lot better with that inviting bass accompaniment.
Good old music shall never be forgotten.
Truth be told, the songs from the older generations are gold, and we wish that someday, our musical artists today will be able to write songs with the same quality of heartfelt lyrics.
Actually, one of the millions who saw the video agrees with this. A YouTube user named Dante Griffen wrote in the comments:
“Honestly when this old generation passes I’m going to miss it. They had some good songs and that’s it up to us to spread on the good music”
