Pasta is an instant crowd favorite, and it’s known as one of the world’s most favorite foods. It’s cheap and versatile. A box of pasta will often cost you $1 or less, and you can get really creative with it. It goes well with all sorts of vegetables, and it works with seafood and meat.
But if there’s one knock against pasta, it’s that it takes a little bit longer to cook than other meals. Boiling pasta takes at least 7-10 minutes, and then you have to prepare the sauce as well as the other ingredients.
Fortunately, for those of us who are too busy, there’s a really simple way to make pasta. Using just one pot, Martha Stewart shows you an easy-to-follow recipe that is sure to please.
You will need the following ingredients:
- 12 ounces linguine pasta
- 12 ounces grape or cherry tomatoes, quartered or halved
- 2 cups thinly sliced onions
- 4 thinly sliced garlic cloves
- ½ tsp. red pepper flakes
- 2 sprigs basil and torn leaves for garnish
- 2 tbsps. extra-virgin olive oil
- Coarse salt
- Ground pepper
- 4 ½ cups water
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
It takes just 20 minutes to make this delicious dish.
First, combine pasta, onions, tomatoes, red-pepper flakes, garlic, oil, 2 tsps. salt, ¼ tsp. pepper, basil, and water in a large straight-sided pan. By using this pan, the linguine pasta will cook evenly and lay flat.
Next, boil the mixture over high heat.
Stir frequently and turn the pasta every now and then with a fork or tongs until it is al dente. In about 9 minutes, the pasta should be cooked and the water should have evaporated.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with basil, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil.
