For those chocolate lovers out there, this Mars Rice Krispie Squares recipe will have your mouth watering. Using melted down Mars bars and even more creamy chocolate drizzle, this recipe brings your classic rice krispie treat to a level of decadence never seen before.
The Mars bars in this can be substituted with the same amount of another chocolate of your choice, and feel free to top these off with more chocolate crumble if you feel like taking the chocolate factor up another level! Make this version today and we guarantee you won't be going back to your standard marshmallow rice krispie.
Ingredients:
- 5 Mars bars, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter, chopped, plus extra for greasing
- 3 cups Rice Krispies, or other puffed rice cereal
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream, divided
Directions:
- Grease an 8×8 baking dish with butter.
- Create a double-boiler by placing a large heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water (do not allow the base of the bowl to touch the water).
- Add the Mars bars and butter to the bowl and stir until melted, smooth and well combined. The mixture will curdle at first, but keep stirring (or use a whisk) and it will eventually become smooth.
- Remove the bowl from the heat, add the Rice Krispies and fold until coated in the chocolate mixture.
- Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press down to form an even layer, pushing the mixture into the corners and sides of the dish. Set aside to cool.
- Meanwhile, in two separate bowls, add 1/2 cup heavy cream to each cup of chocolate chips. Microwave the chocolate and cream in the two bowls for about 30 seconds each, or until melted enough to whisk the chocolate and cream together.
- Drizzle or spread each chocolate mixture over the cooled chocolate Rice Krispies. Set aside to cool and harden.
- Chill the chocolate crispy treats in the fridge until set, preferably overnight. Cut into squares while still in the baking dish, then remove them, pile onto a plate and serve.
