When you see someone in need, many of us have the instinct to help. One man did just that and certainly didn’t expect what happened after that. This is a story that will really pull on your heartstrings and restore your faith in humanity.
Meet Jeff Simmons.
He has a full-time job that he works to support his family and then comes home to work on a side project he loves.
Jeff makes custom woodcut works of art that he sells online. He doesn’t get rich off of it. It’s just something he enjoys doing in his spare time.
One month, Jeff ended up with some extra cash in his pocket after paying all his bills. So, he decided to treat himself.
He went to the car wash to get his truck detailed as a little gift to himself. But, when he was there, he just couldn’t do it.
He saw a woman crying and wiping her eyes.
She was obviously in distress, although he wasn’t quite sure what was going on. The woman, Christy Stevens, was just told her tires were dangerously thin and she would need new ones.
As an unemployed single mom, this wasn’t something that was in the budget. That’s when Jeff knew what he had to do.
He called his wife and told her what was going on. Although he wanted to get his truck detailed, he knew the extra cash could go to better use. He and his knew what it was like to struggle and have tough times.
With money in hand, Jeff approached Christy and told her he was going to buy her the new tires she so desperately needed.
The two had never met before, making this moment even more touching. Christy was amazed that a complete stranger was doing such a kind deed.
But, the story of paying it forward doesn’t end there.
One of Jeff’s friends was also touched by what he did and didn’t want it to go unnoticed. She contacted CBS5 news to tell them about Jeff’s story.
The station does a weekly segment about people in the community doing good deeds. She knew this fit the bill.
One day when Jeff was working in his garage, his friend showed up with a CBS5 news crew.
The station recognized Jeff for his random act of kindness and wanted to do something for him in return.
They gave him $500 for his good deed.
Jeff never did the good deed to be recognized or to get anything out of it. He did it out of the kindness of his heart.
This is why the recognition came as such a shock.
But, there was one more surprise.
As Jeff looked down the road, he saw Christy driving down the street in the car with the new tires he bought for her.
Christy told CBS5,
“This is something that helped give me a little bit more faith to remember that times are not always so awful, people are not always so bad.”
It just goes to show you how timing is everything in life. If Jeff hadn’t been at the gas station at the same time as Christy and saw what was going on, this inspirational story of kindness would have never happened.
This is truly a story that can restore your faith in humanity and your belief in fate.
