A Texan farmer has been raising poultry for many years. One morning, however, he found something remarkable in his coop. Farming can often be predictable, but this farmer could never have predicted this.
He discovers an odd egg out of the many that he collected.
Among his flock, he notices a chicken that keeps laying giant eggs that he finds incredible.
Some of the eggs that this particular chicken lays are three times bigger than the regular ones.
You may have heard before that the chickens at home can produce better quality eggs, and they are also better than what you can purchase in the stores. It’s a bonus if you have larger eggs, of course.
When he cracks this large egg open, he usually finds a yolk inside. But, with this particular, odd-sized egg, he’s in for a shocking surprise that he’s never seen in years of collecting eggs from his poultry.
What’s unbelievable with that one egg is the presence of another egg inside it.
The smaller egg inside the huge egg is of average size.
If there is a term for this, it must be “eggception.”
Indeed, it is pretty unusual for an egg to have another egg inside it. The farmer from Texas doesn’t have a clue about how this became possible.
He has specified it though, that the chicken has been laying bigger-sized eggs previously, but there’s no discomfort or physical pain which he noticed from that chicken.
The farmer has no other expectation from the large eggs that he is getting from that one chicken until he cracks open a special one he’s holding.
“What’s inside? A double egger. Ya, who’s got the best chickens? No double yolks, that is for wimps. We have double eggers,” the farmer jokes in the video.
Perhaps, you are now wondering how this happened that an egg is within another egg.
Science has an explanation for it. So, there’s no need to feel frustrated.
Counter-peristalsis contraction is how the egg forms inside another egg.
When the chicken releases an oocyte that becomes the yolk eventually, the process of forming an egg starts, there is a double egg that happens when the chicken is going to release another oocyte just before the full development of the first one.
This occurrence is very rare though, according to Backyard Poultry. The reason why it is considered really special.
This farmer in Texas is quite fortunate to have a double egger from one of his chicken’s unique abilities.
The farmer then proceeds to crack both of the eggs in a bowl, and he sees a big yolk from each egg.
A similar process but different end result.
Linda Alvarado from Britain has also documented a similar case of getting double eggs.
She has witnessed something different since the main egg has a regular size, and there’s a very tiny second egg inside it.
She notices that the shell is soft, clear, and not yet fully formed. But this has the same process as with the other case of counter-peristalsis contraction. The result is somewhat unique too.
“However, in this case, the oocyte that was released in the first egg … was tiny because the ovary had released an oocyte out of order. Usually, hens ovulate daily in order of size – laying the largest, most developed oocyte first. The hen’s ovary is simultaneously preparing smaller oocytes for release at a later time. Occasionally, a small, underdeveloped oocyte jumps the queue,” as explained in the specialized Backyard Poultry website.
Because of this peculiar egg that the farmer in Texas has cracked open, his video has received so many views, and they find it quite incredible too. They couldn’t believe their eyes.
